the environment is mainly limited to the living beings and tangible items they
encounter in their daily lives. The results indicate that children have a moderate
level of knowledge about environmental pollution, particularly in terms of its
causes. However, when it comes to the effects of environmental pollution, the
children are considered knowledgeable. Notably, the study highlights that a
majority of Grade 6 pupils recognize litter as one of the major causes of
environmental pollution, and they identify respiratory diseases, air pollution, and
climate change as significant effects of pollution. These findings suggest that
children are aware of environmental issues, particularly those that directly impact
their community. Furthermore, the study reveals that there are no significant
relationships between the level of perception of school-age children and their
profile variables, such as age, gender, and grade level. This implies that
children's environmental awareness is relatively consistent across different
demographic groups. Despite the moderate level of knowledge observed in the
children, the study emphasizes the need for more environmental education in
schools. The integration of environmental awareness into the curriculum, along with
outdoor activities that promote environmental understanding, can play a crucial
role in enhancing children's environmental knowledge and sensitivity.
