Other Trigonometry properties

Parts of a circle is called a sector.

1
Arc Length = s=θr Area Of Sector = A= θ r 2
2

1
A= sr
2
s = arc length
A = Area of Sector
θ = angle of the sector (radian)

r = radius
Perimeter = the sum of all edges

Example 1:
The diagram shows part of a circle, centre O, radius r cm.
Calculate:

(a) the value of r

(b) ∠ BOC in radians

Example 2:
A sector cut from a circle of radius 5 cm has a perimeter of 16 cm.
Find the area of this sector.

Example 3:
In the diagram, arcs AB and CD are arcs of concentric circles,
centre O. If OA = 6 cm, AC = 3 cm and the area of sector AOB is 12
cm , calculate:
2

(a) ∠ AOB in radians,

(b) the area and perimeter
of the shaded region.

Example 4:
The diagram shows a circle, centre O, radius 5 cm. The tangents to
the circle at A meets OB produced at T. Given that the length of
the arc AB is 6 cm, calculate the area of the shaded region, correct
to 2 decimal places.

Example 5:
The diagram shows a circle of radius 6 cm and ∠ AOC = 120°.
Calcualte, to 3 significant figures, the area of

(a) the minor sector AOC

(b) the shaded segment ABC
