What I Need to Know?

A pleasant day to all of you. The module provided herein is particularly


designed for you. It is anchored from my own field of specialization and expertise,
hoping, and trying to help you develop several skills related to livelihood. This module
contains lesson on how to perform macramé production. It also discusses on how to
produce and come up the macramé projects, such as bag and basket using a personalize
and apply creative design in each product.
Relevant activities are specifically crafted to widen their understanding, develop
skills, and hone them to become entrepreneur in macramé by recognizing the
opportunities thereat with regards to business. The students can easily understand
the level of vocabulary used in this module. The instructions are organized accordingly
based on the distinctive classification of the course. The learning style is blended with
the availability of technology where the students can engage and be more participative.

This learner’s manual is specifically crafted on the different activities that will
equip learners with skills and knowledge. This learner’s module will make macramé and
basketry a potential entrepreneur.

Macramé is a form of textile-making using knotting rather than weaving or


knitting. Its primary knots are the square knots and “hitching”: full hitch and double
half hitches.
In this portion, after making your design in the previous lesson, this time you
will produce a product either bag or basket and apply creativity out of it. Availability
of materials will be based on what you have in your home such as used t-shirts,
malongs, beddings etc. if it is soft in texture and long in size.

What Is It? Project 1 - Macramé Bag

Ask the assistance of your parents in making this project.

You will Need:

1. Used T-shirt (cotton)


2. Twigs (Handle)
3. Measuring tape
4. Scissor
5. Buttons, ribbon or lace or
any finishing materials

Note: Please refer to the kinds of knot for your reference. The finished size is 15-20
inches tall, 10 -15 inches wide in area on top and 20 inches at the bottom when
pulled sideways. But in this project the size and shape will depends on you.

STEPS:

1. Gather the materials that you need. Cut the cotton t-shirt along and measure at
least 1 inch in width.

2.Prepare the handle together with the


strand of cloth. Mount 1 strand of

cloth in the handle (TWIGS) using
larks head knot.

3. Pull the 2 strands to tighten from 4
the handle. Do the same step until
you make 6 from left and 6 from the
right of the handle of lark’s head knot.

Note: Apply paint or varnish in the


handle if you have in your home.

4. Hang your handle where you can work


comfortable.

5. Get 4 strands of cloth from the left and


make braid knot for 1 inch. Do the same
step until you make it 6. Then do the square
knot at the end to lock.

8. Meet 2 strands at the center,


get another strand, apply half
hitch knot make it 4 strands to
form U shape.

9. Continue making square knot


and double the square knot for
your bag.

Note: you can make your own


design and used knot which is
easy for you to make.

10. Repeat the step for the other side of your bag.

11. If you finish the other side, flatten on the table, and
get 1 strand from left side and 1 from right side of your
bag then met halfway. Used this strand as the holding,
in between at the side and add 4 strands of cloth. Make
larks head knot.

12. Place the finish basket bag on the table. Start from
the left edge and locate the first knot both the back
and front, organize the stands. There are 4 pairs of
two cords, combine one from the back with another
from the front, match the knots and secure them
together then make a square knot 2x to lock. Repeat
the process with the remaining pairs.

13. Finishing process. When you tie the last row of Alternating Square Knots, make it
tighten. There should be no extra space between them. This helps to stabilize and
strengthen the bottom of the macramé basket bag.
14. If finish, simply cut the end at least 2 to
3 inches. Ensure that all cords are tied
off with knots and bottom closed.

15. Add button or beads to lock the bag.

Note: You can create other macrame project aside from macrame bag. It will be
based on your knowledge and skills in macrame making.

What’s More?

Students Skills Performance. The students will apply skills and knowledge they
have learned in project making. Students will demonstrate mastered skills in
performing and producing the project. Trainings of skills and knowledge is the primary
concern to develop both physical and mental skills, procedures, and techniques in
making a Macramé bag.

Please refer to Quarter 2 lesson 1.1. Fill up the contents of your project plan you
made, and you will be graded using the criteria for judging stated in No. 4.
