Evaluation of pre-surgical prophylactic


Antibiotic compliance in Elective/ Emergency LSCS/NVD
Objective
1. To measure compliance to the recommended antibiotic.
2. To measure compliance to administration of antibiotic within 60
minutes of incision.

Methodology
 A record based cross sectional study was carried out from May,
2023 to July 2023.
 Study instrument & material: audit tool and audit report of the
record.
 Sample size: all cases of delivery during the said period i.e.
3 months
 Inj. Monocef was the recommended antibiotic and any other
antibiotic given on medical ground was considered compliant.
 Antibiotic administered within 0-60 min. prior to incision was
considered compliant.

Conclusion

 Recommended antibiotic was used in 27 cases i.e. 100 %

 Other antibiotic was used in 0 cases i.e. 0%

 Total compliance for antibiotic use was 100%

 Antibiotic administration compliance within 60 min. prior to incision was 100%

 Although, compliance for antibiotic use was high, personal choice for the use of other antibiotic
with reason can’t be ruled out.

 Full time consultant had high compliance for the objectives as compared to courtesy consultant.

Recommendations

 Monitoring of SSI should be done to know effectiveness of the antibiotic used.
