STRESS

In our daily life, we often use the term “stress” to describe negative situations in our life.
Everyone experiences stress at times-adults, teenagers, and even children. In consequence of this,
we should all learn more about stress, its causes, its symptoms, its effects on our body or related
disorders, and how we can minimize it in our life. Stress is a natural part of life, without it, we
might lose our energy for living. So, it is important to find our optimal level of stress- the balance
at which we are most motivated. Majority of people nowadays encountered health problems which
leads every individual to suffer, we so called the word Stress. And it is important for individual to
know how to deal or manage techniques to make stress work for you rather than against you. So,
what is stress? Stress can be defined as any type of change that causes physical, emotional or
psychological strain. Stress is our body’s response to anything that requires attention or action.
Everyone experiences stress to some degree. The way you respond to stress, however, makes a big
difference to your overall well-being. We have also called Distress. Is distress a type of stress?
According to Lazarus (building on Dr. Selye’s work) suggested that there is a difference between
eustress, which is a term for positive stress, and distress, which refers to negative stress. Distress
refers to non-specific symptoms of stress like anxiety and depression. People who encountered
distress are those people who feels that they are not able to manage or cope with changes by normal
life activities. So sometimes those people suffering distressed choose to devote their life than to
fight distress. Stress and Distress are both health problems but they differ in terms in how we
handle them because Stress is just a normal reaction to environmental or internal perturbations
and can be considered adaptive in nature while Distress occurs when stress is severe, prolonged,
or both. The most dangerous thing about stress is how easily it can creep up on you. You get used
to it. It starts to feel familiar, even normal. You don’t notice how much it’s affecting you, even as
it takes a heavy toll. That’s why it’s important to be aware of the common signs and symptoms of
stress like Memory problems, Inability to concentrate, seeing only the negative, constant worrying,
Feeling Overwhelmed and other mental or emotional health problems. I also encountered those
kinds of symptoms I’ve mentioned above like overthinking at nights, worrying about my academic
performance in online class or if I could have a good or enough grades after my first semestral.
But however, I’ve surpassed those stress that I feel. Well, it’s not really easy to deal with stress
because it can lead you to risk if you keep on thinking those problems and concluding already
negative thoughts. Because if you keep on worrying about something and not having much or any

control over the outcome then there is a possibility that you would encounter as we called distress.
There are many ways to overcome in stress like doing exercise. Exercise is one of the most
important things we can do to combat stress. It might seem contradictory, but putting physical
stress on our body through exercise can relieve mental stress. Spend time with friends and family
because social support from friends and family can help us get through stressful times. Being part
of a friend network gives us a sense of belonging and self-worth, which can help using tough times.
Laugh it’s hard to feel anxious when we’re laughing it’s good for our health. In the long term,
laughter can also help improve your immune system and mood. Learn to say” no” because not all
stressor is within our control, but some are. Take control over the parts of our life that can change
and are causing our stress. Sometimes we can get stress from our environment, why? Because a
stressful environment can affect us, even if were not directly experiencing the stress in ourself.
And this stress has an impact to others around us because as we become more stressed, we might
release chemicals stimulate other around us. Everyone can experience stress. Sometimes it can
help us focus and get the task at hand done. But when stress is frequent and intense, it can strain
our body and make it impossible to function but there are many effective ways to deal with stress
like accepting our needs, managing our time, practicing relaxation, exercise daily, get enough
sleep, talk to friends or family and set aside time for yourself. Especially in this year we were
doing both modular and online class and as a student it is really stressful, why? Aside from poor
connection of signals lack of financial stability to make loads on our mobile phones. How can we
supposed answer those modules or activities when it hasn’t been taught in the first place or was
left unclear? Not all students can function and learn just by watching videos or reading Instructions.
Not everybody has the same privilege, situation, and mental stability. And staying focused on
online class is a challenge. Separating home life and class time, not following a routine schedule,
the distractions at home, cause every student not to be able to concentrate well with our class.
Modular and Online class is harder for many reasons from missing crucial parts of our learning, to
not being able to access our education because of the internet, online learning has been a rough
adjustment. Many students have struggled to make the jump from physically being at school to
learning virtually. That’s why we students also experienced an increase in stress, anxiety and
depression and have felt some negative feelings intensified, such as fear, worry or boredom. For
me as a student all we need is a consideration of a teacher. But we have no choice but to overcome
on it because we are students, and it’s our obligations, we have goal and we have dream.
