A Journey of Leadership in the Art Club Revival

Creativity is a powerful force that can either shape and transform individuals,
communities and the entire organizations. During my entire stay in high school, I found
myself in a situation where I was forced to use my leadership skills to overcome formidable
obstacles. The experience I gained therefore taught me the real meaning of resilience, self
determination and the ability to rally others from a shared vision. In the midst of adversity, I
was challenged to rise above the challenges imposed by budget cuts and lack of support from
the school principal. However, with an unwavering passion of belief and art of transforming
power of creative expression, I embarked on a mission to breathe life back into the
community by ensuring things are back to normal. This perspective essay will therefore delve
into obstacles I faced and the leadership qualities I used in order to bring back peace. By
demonstrating values, communicating effectively and being flexible, I got myself being able
to overcome the challenges and ultimately reignite the flames of artistic inspiration in our
school.
Situation
During my four years in high school, our school was facing a high budget cut leading
to the unfortunate closure of many extracurricular activities, such as art clubs. The art clubs
have a very huge impacts on student creativity and well-being. Moreover, the art clubs are
said to be more beneficial in that students get involved in some activities apart from class
lessons and there is where their talents are seen and highly taken in consideration (Mitchell et
al., 2020). In the world we are in today, talent is highly prioritized as it is believed that it is
some people’s way of earning a living. In conclusion, I therefore recognized that the void left
by absence of art groups really affected most students and I felt a deep need to bring back this
important artistic expression to our school.
Obstacles
During that hard time in school, I encountered two major obstacles in my trial to
revive the art clubs: opposition from the school officials and lack of funding. Due to lack of
proper communication with the school officials, I therefore found it hard to face the school
officials and discuss with them the need of school restructuring the art clubs and their
significances to the students. Moreover, the suspicions and concerns about financial resources
created major challenges. Lack of funds meant that we had to find another solution which
will help us purchase art requirements and support group activities (Guida et al., 2023).
Conclusively, I found that overcoming these obstacles requires patience, effective
communication and the resource to manage the resisting activists and obtain the resources
needed to revive this clubs.
Leadership Qualities
During this time, I demonstrated many leadership qualities to overcome these
obstacles. First, I demonstrated the determination by doing more research on the values of art
club activities and how they positively impact students’ creativity, psychological well-being
and academic achievements and in turn presenting more convincing evidences to the school
administration. Second, I demonstrated flexibility by analyzing alternative currencies.
Furthermore, I reached out to local art supply stores, community organizations and started a
crowdfunding campaign to help in raising funds. In conclusion, I found it that being flexible
and proactive made me to look for solutions that can be put in consideration very fast.
Conclusion
The experience I gained taught me a lot of valuable lessons about leadership,
perseverance and the power of advocacy. I was therefore able to overcome various obstacles
through determination, effective communication and flexibility. This development not only
gave our school students a creative outlet but also highlighted the importance of having
courage and standing up for what we believe can be beneficial to all of us.
