PRACTICE PAPER-CHEMISTRY-P.

T-3-GRADE10-2021-22
SECTION A
1. Give one example each for combined and elemental form of carbon. 1
2. Give one example of fullerene. 1
3. Assertion/Reason type: 1
Following questions consist of two statements – Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Answer
these questions selecting the appropriate option given below:
(a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.
(b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) A is false but R is true.
Assertion(A) : Carbon is the only element that can form large number of compounds.
Reason (R) : Carbon is tetravalent and shows the property of catenation.

SECTION-B
4. Define allotropes. Why do allotropes show same chemical properties? 2

SECTION-C
5. Catenation is the ability of an atom to form bonds with other atoms of the same element. It 3
is exhibited by both carbon and silicon.
a) Compare the abilities of catenation of these two elements by giving reasons.
b) Give the formulae of one compound each of these elements that exist abundantly
in nature.
6. Give reasons: 3
a) Diamond is used in making insulated plates, while graphite is used in making
electrodes.
b) Butane shoes isomerism , while propane does not.
c) Carbon cannot form ionic compounds.
