Lesson # 4

DEATH
Death remains a great mystery,
one of the central issues with
which religion, philosophy and
science have wrestled since the
beginning of human history.
CONCEPTION
OF
Are you afraid of death? If you are, why do you think
you are, and if you’re not, why do you think you’re
not?
Others are terrified of the very thought
of losing control over everything they
have worked for their life.
FEAR is the feeling that is mostly associated with the
thought of death.
MY DEATH IS MINE.

Human existence is an
individuated existence. Your
existence is unique. There is
nobody else in the world like
you, there never was, and
there never will be another
you.
MY DEATH IS MINE.
MY DEATH IS MINE.

Therefore, your life is yours to live. No

other person can live your life for you.
Your life is unprecedented and
unrepeatable historical event.
MY Death must happen and my Death
can happen at any time.

Human existence is a being-toward-death. Whether we

are aware of this fact or not, whether we accept it
or deny it, our way of being is one that is always
already on the way toward death.
CONCEPT
OF
Being – toward - Death
Martin Heidegger (1889–1976) was a German
philosopher whose work is perhaps most readily
associated with phenomenology and existentialism,
although his thinking should be identified as part of
such philosophical movements only with extreme
care and qualification.
Is there an essential relationship
between human existence and
time?
Human existence must be understood
as temporal, that is, as an existence
which is bound to time.
Death is the human being’s
own most, ultimate
possibility for the future.
To understand human beings as
temporal therefore necessities an
exploration of every temporal aspect of
our existence, most especially our
relationship with the future.

-authentic existence
-inauthentic existence
Authenticity in the face of Death.
DAS MAN- they-self
To hide from the reality of our
death is essentially to run away
from ourselves. It signifies our
willingness to live our lives in
truth.

For the most part of our lives, we

turn away from our own most and
ultimate possibility because we
are simply too busy dealing with
life.
