Education Trip To IISC Bangalore

IISC Bangalore had organized Open Science Day event on the 4 th march
to commemorate the significance of Raman effect. The Open Day
featured with popular lectures, experimental demonstrations, poster
presentations, quiz contests, scientific competitions, and exhibitions
hosted at various departments and centres across its campus. A 'Kids-
Zone' with a number of science and technology demonstrations was
installed for younger students to experiment basic science concepts. The
Open Day helps everyone understand projects with reference to
scientific learning. People across country come here to witness this great
event. We had a fantastic opportunity to visit it as this year was special
because IISC opened its gates for Open Day after three-years. There
were many displays of projects and experiments that helped us to
understand new concepts and gave us new experiences.
We initially visited the central library with many books related to various
scientific themes. We explored different subjects of books that were
present at the library. Then we visited the main ground, wherein there
was exhibits of live drones that was AI-powered and could detect objects
around it. The AI based drone was truly spectacular to witness. We then
visited the department of Chemical Sciences, where we saw a hydrogen
ball used for drug diffusion in hot bodies, a chemical garden that grows
instantly, a solution called sodium silicate was used with metal salt, and
we also saw an electromagnetic train. They used a simple cell with
magnets attached to its ends, and when it passed through a copper, the
cells moved. Following that, we were given an explanation of photonics,
spectroscopy, electromagnetics, radiation, spectrum, and so on. There
was a model of three planes on display, two of which were jets and one
of which could land and take off from the water. Next, we moved on to
the department of physical sciences to watch a video about various
experiments.
It was indeed a great experiential learning for students to learn and
understand more on science beyond classrooms that would encourage
students of our class in the future.
