PROJECT “OH MY GAD!”

(OPLAN HELPING MISBEHAVING YOUTH ON
GUIDANCE AND DISCIPLINE)

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not
depart from it.”

Ladies and gentlemen, we are the team “OH MY GAD!” from Pres. Carlos P.
Garcia Memorial High School!

Our project is entitled, “OH MY GAD!” which means OPLAN HELPING

MISBEHAVING YOUTH ON GUIDANCE AND DISCIPLINE. Our project is
geared towards the guidance and discipline of our learners by nurturing
and making sure that they are always on the right track.

PCPGMHS has currently 1,372 students with 57 teachers, 3 non-teaching

staff and 1 administrator.

Despite all the achievements of the school, it also faces struggles and
setbacks.

WHERE WERE WE BEFORE?

As our enrollment continues to increase every year, new challenges

emerge especially on students’ guidance and discipline.

Discipline as an integral part of every institution, is a key to have a

harmonious and safe school environment. We believe that the discipline
process in schools must ensure a just and firm implementation
safeguarding the well-being and welfare of students. Thus, PCPGMHS
desires to redefine student guidance and discipline explicitly.

As the enrolment continues to rise, cases of misbehavior also increases.

During the 2nd quarter of this school year, there were 173 misbehaving
students recorded from the advisers and the guidance office of which
Grade 10 was the highest. These consist from minor to major offenses.

To understand the situation, we conducted a Focused Group Discussion,

and asked them “Unsay mga rason nga dili man makatuman ang studyante

sa balaod sa eskwelahan?”

We affinitized their answers into 4 themes as: Attitude and Behavior,

Family-Related, Peer-Related, and School Factor. Notable reasons emerge
such as “maimpluwensyahan sa barkada; gusto ko makaon sa gawas;
broken family mi; and, laayon ko usahay.

We interviewed their parents, “Unsay mga rason nga dili man makatuman
ang inyong mga anak sa balaod sa eskwelahan?” They said, “Di patoo kung
storyahan; magalgal sa barkada; ug; magtuman sa ilang gusto.”

With the current guidance and discipline process, we have found out the
lapses and bottlenecks that hinder its smooth facilitation.

Storm clouds appear such as, undocumented incidents, unavailability of

files, hesitance of erring student to respond, parents fail to answer call
slips, indifference of students to rules and regulations of the school.

We come up with a Focused Problem Statement, “There were 44

misconducts from Grade 10- Industry which has the highest recorded
misbehavior during the 2nd quarter; and an Objective Statement “To
reduce the number of misconduct of Grade 10- Industry from 44 to 11
(25%) for 3rd quarter.

HOW DID WE DO IT?

Six valid root causes are focused by the team such as; find school work
tiresome, do not like school rules, influenced by peers, negative habits and
vices, parental guidance is needed, and broken families.

Most of these causes are behavior- related that is why our goal is just to be
of constant support and guidance of these students. We also made
simplified activity sheets as remediation; oriented them of the rules and
regulations in school, conducted home visitations, and most especially to
be a constant ear to listen to their thoughts and emotions.

Through hard work and dedication to service, there is a leap of

improvement in the performances of these students.

WHERE ARE WE NOW?

There has been a decrease in the number of misbehavior of our customers.

In the pilot testing, there were only 10 recorded misconduct during the 3 rd
quarter of this school year which means an 88% decrease of misbehavior.

This process was rolled out to Grade 10- Fortitude where a decrease in
misconduct was also evident.

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

With this project, the school has an assurance that it is on the right track
knowing that it cares and helps students regain themselves to be better
and productive individuals. The process will be carried out in the school for
the next years to come.

We should remember that positive results are reaped when students’ are
given attention, love and focus.

Thank you and God bless everyone!
