N ❑ Scientific Management – also refer to as “Taylorism”;
which is the art of what you want your men to do and seeing
T that they do it in the best and cheapest way possible.
R ✓ A theory that analyzes and synthesizes workflow.
✓ Its main objectives is improving efficiency at work and
I especially labor productivity.
B o The theory proposed replacement of Rule-of-Thumb;
which is a guideline that provides simplified advice or
U instruction to a specific subject.

O ▪ Soldiering – a phenomenon where workers operate well below
from their capacity.
N The causes of Soldiering
T ✓ Universal belief among workers that if they become
more productive, only a few of them would be needed:
R thus, jobs eliminated.
I ✓ Non-incentive wage systems encourage low
productivity. Workers received same wage regardless
B how much they produced.
U Thus,
✓ If workers are paid according to the quantity they
T produce, they will fear their pay would be decreased.
I ✓ Workers wasting their efforts relying on “Rule-of-
Thumb” rather than a standardized or unified work
O method.

O ▪ Techniques of Scientific Management or “Taylorism”
o Functional Foremanship
N The means to separate planning from execution. Where
T each worker is supervised. The theory suggests, that there
is planning in charge and a production so as to increase
R efficiency.
I o Standardization and Simplification of Work
To simplify and unify workflow.
B o Time and Motion Study
U Evaluation of industrial performance, analysis of the time
spent in going through the different motions of a job or
T series of jobs.
I o Method Study
Method study is the process of subjecting work to
O systematic, critical scrutiny to make it more effective and/or
N more efficient.
