SUMMARY OF MOVIE:

Miss Saigon tells the story of Chris, an American male GI, who falls in love with Kim, a young
Vietnamese orphan who works as a bar-girl and prostitute. When the city falls, the lovers are
separated and Chris eventually returns to the U.S. Years later, Chris returns to Bangkok with his
American wife, Ellen. In Vietnam, when Kim and Chris were together, they conceived a son,
Tam, who is “bui-doi” (pronounced bwee DOY; English translation is ‘dust of life’). Bui-doi were
Ameriasian children (one American and one Asian parent) who were often shunned and left
behind after the Vietnam War. Kim raised their son on her own and when reunited years later,
Kim and Chris must decide what the future holds for all of them.

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTER? WHY?

Ellen. She needs the audience to like her in a very short amount of time. She is inadvertently Kim's
nemesis, and the audience has spent the entire show falling in love with Kim. Just as they should,
however, it becomes a huge task for the writers and performers to make Ellen likable. But they do!

DID YOU LIKE THE MOVIE? WHY OR WHY NOT?

From the beginning of the show, I was transported to Saigon, with spectacular sets that captured the
location and time period perfectly, especially the seedy nightclub Dreamland. Set Designer Totie Driver
has certainly created a visual masterpiece.

WILL YOU RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE? WHO WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE TO AND WHY?

Yes, I would like to recommend this movie of miss Saigon tells the tragic tale of a doomed romance
involving an Asian woman abandoned by her American lover. The setting of the plot is relocated to
1970s Saigon during the Vietnam War, and Madame Butterfly's story of marriage

WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM THE STORY?

Convincing performances ensure the audience cheers for a reconciliation between Kim and Chris,
current circumstances be damned, and the contrived ending is nevertheless startling and heartbreaking.
The consequences are personal, the message -  a plea for honesty and accountability, not to mention
peace - is universal
