Celestial Sphere
Celestial Sphere
considered to lie.
Because an astronomer can only see half the sky at a time, that is, only half the sky is
above the horizon at any time. But the sky keeps moving as the earth rotates. Just as
the sun rises and sets every day, so does every star in the sky each night. The
celestial sphere is a large sphere surrounding the earth and with it we can keep
references to where celestial bodies lie in the sky.
Constellation.
a group of stars forming a recognizable pattern that is traditionally named after its apparent form
or identified with a mythological figure. Modern astronomers divide the sky into eighty-eight
constellations with defined boundaries.
Aldebaran is an orange giant star measured to be about 65 light-years from the Sun in the zodiac
constellation Taurus.
Tres Marias
the common name for the three stars in the "Belt of Orion" in the constellation "Orion".
a constellation on the equator east of Taurus represented on charts by the figure of a hunter
with belt and sword. 2 : a giant hunter slain by Artemis in Greek mythology. In Greek
mythology, Orion was a legendary HUNTER.
Orion /o-rie-un/ is a new NASA spacecraft for astronauts. The spacecraft is an important part of
NASA's Artemis program that includes sending the first woman and the next man to the Moon
by 2024. What Will Orion Do? Orion will carry astronauts into deep space, and then return
them home safely to Earth.
Betelgeuse is usually the tenth-brightest star in the night sky and, after Rigel, the second-
brightest in the constellation of Orion. It is a distinctly reddish semiregular variable star whose
apparent magnitude, varying between +0.0 and +1.6, has the widest range displayed by any
first-magnitude star.
Gemini
: the third sign of the zodiac that comes between Taurus and Cancer and has a pair of twins as
its symbol. : a person born under the sign of Gemini : a person born between May 21st and
June 21st.
Rigel is a blue supergiant that is the brightest star in the constellation Orion (the Hunter). Due to
its measured size and brightness it is expected to end in a supernova one day. It also has two
known companions, Rigel B and Rigel C.
