Semi – Detailed Lesson Plan in General Mathematics 11

I. Objectives
A. Content Standard : The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of sampling and sampling
distributions of the sample mean.

B. Performance Standard : The learner is able to apply suitable sampling and sampling distributions of the
sample mean to solve real-life problems in different disciplines.

C. Learning Competency : defines the sampling distribution of the sample mean for normal population when
the variance is: (a) known; (b) unknown

D. Lesson Code : M11/12SP-IIIe-1

COOPERATION AND PARTICIPATION

E. SpecificObjectives
At the end of the lesson, the students can be able to:

1. Review the concept of population and sample, and the difference between the two
2. Identify whether the variance is known or unknown
3. Define the sampling distribution of the sample mean through the variance

II. Content
A. Subject Matter
Topic : Define the Sampling Distribution of the Sample Mean
Date : April 17-21, 2023 (day 1)
Time : 1:00 – 2:00 AM (Grade 11 – ROMULO)
Allotment : 60 Minutes
B. Learning Resources
References : LM(DIWA) pages:
Learner’s Modules: Statistics _ Probability_Q3_Mod4_Random Sampling,
Parameter and Statistic.pdf
TG pages: NONE
MELC/s page: 541 out of 723
Other learner resources:
Materials : Laptop, TV, Blackboard, Chalk.

III. Procedure
A. Daily Routine
- Prayer, Greetings, Classroom Management, Attendance and Checking of the assignment.

B. Review/Presenting New Lesson

- The teacher will have a short review about the concept of population and sample, and the
difference between the two
- The teacher will present the new topic about ”Defining the Sampling Distribution of the Sample
Mean.

C. Establishing a Purpose
- The teacher will present the objectives of the lesson
1. Review the concept of population and sample, and the difference between the two
2. Identify whether the variance is known or unknown
3. Define the sampling distribution of the sample mean through the variance

D. Presenting examples/Instances of the new Lesson

- The teacher will let the students do an activity.
Activity 1: Seenario

Ask students to think about a scenario where they need to estimate the average height of students
in their school, but they cannot measure the height of every student. How can they use a sample
to estimate the population mean?

E. Discussing New concept and practicing new skills #1

- The teacher will let the students do an activity
Activity 2:
(a) Known Variance: Provide a data set of heights of students in the class. Ask students to take a
random sample of 10 students and calculate the sample mean. Repeat this process 50 times and
plot the distribution of sample means. Discuss the properties of this distribution and how it relates to
the population mean.
(b) Unknown Variance: Provide a data set of weights of apples in a basket. Ask students to take a
random sample of 15 apples and calculate the sample mean and sample standard deviation. Repeat
this process 50 times and plot the distribution of sample means. Discuss the properties of this
distribution and how it relates to the population mean.

F. Discussing new concept and practicing new skills #2

- The teacher will discuss the lesson
Introduce the concept of standard error and how it relates to the standard deviation of the population
and the sample size

G. Developing mastery of the lesson

- The teacher will let the students answer the third activity in their notebook and will call
volunteers to answer on the board.
H. Finding the Practical Application of Concepts and skills in daily living.
- The teacher will ask a real-life problem.
Activity 3:
Provide a real-life problem where the student needs to estimate the population mean using a sample. Ask
them to calculate the sample mean, standard deviation, and standard error.

I. Generalization
- The teacher will ask the students about what they have learned in the discussion.
Examples:
1. How do we determine if a variance is known or unknown?

IV. Evaluation #21

V. Additional Activities (Advance)

Direction: Find a real-life problem where you need to estimate the population mean using a
sample. Calculate the sample mean, standard deviation, and standard error

V. Remarks:_________________________________________________
