Anatomical position
• Body standing erect with arms to the side and palms, head, and feet
facing forward
Superior and
Inferior
• Superior- Above the body
• Inferior- below the body
Anterior and
Anterior posterior
• Anterior- Towards the front of the body
• Posterior- Towards the back of the body

Posterior
Medial and lateral
• Lateral- To the side of the body
• Medial- being close to the midline
Distal and
proximal
• Distal- Towards the end of extremities
• Proximal- Closer to the trunk of the body
Superficial

Superficial and deep


• Superficial- Close to the surface of the body
• Deep- Away from the surface of the body

Frontal plane
A cut that divides. the body into anterior
and posterior parts
Transverse plane
• Transverse- A horizontal cut
Sagittal

Sagittal plane
• Sagittal- divides the body into right and
left parts
Midsagittal plane
• Midsagittal- The body is divided directly down the middle
