STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE

Currency Exchange

DEPARTMENT : Rooms Division


SECTION : Guest Service Agent

Basic:

 GSA is required to exchange foreign currency whenever is


requested by the resort’s guest with the correct procedure.

Procedure:

 When guest approaches the Front Desk for currency exchange,


GSA should first find out the country of the currency to be
exchanged.

 If it is an accepted currency, the guest’s name and room


number should be ascertained.

 The GSA should find out the amount to be exchanged and


calculate the equivalent amount in Baht and inform the guest
of the amount.

 If the guest then wishes to exchange his currency, the GSA


should request him/her to hand over the currency to him/her.

 If it is currency notes, the GSA should examine the notes to


ensure that they are genuine.

 If it is travellers’ cheques, the GSA should make the guest put


the second signature on the travellers’ cheque in his/her
presence. The GSA should ensure that both signatures match.

 GSA should then make the entry in the system and print out
the foreign currency exchange slip.

 GSA should then hand over the exchange slip and the local
currency to the guest.

 The GSA should then attach the currency/travellers’ cheques
to the exchange slip.

 At the end of the shift, the GSA should drop all the exchange
slips along with the shift collection in the safe.
