Our Trip Culture Project

Your group will be completing a study of historical and/or geographically significant places to
visit in South American countries. Your teacher will create a student group and assign you a
country. You will be using your imagination to tell the class about a “trip” you went on to your
country with your group and what you all saw or experienced there. You will need to find at least
3 notable experiences to have or places to visit in your assigned country. For example, if I were
assigned Mexico, I might attend a Día de los Muertos parade, visit the Castillo de Chapultapec,
or the ruins of Teotihuacan. You will be using your imagination to tell the class about a “trip” you
went on to your country and what you saw or experienced there.

Once you have found your places, you will begin working on your rough draft in Spanish IN THE
PRETERITE OR IMPERFECT tense for your presentation. You will need to have an
introductory sentence telling where you visited last year, then two sentences about each
experience/place (What was it? Why was it important?), then a concluding sentence. You must
also include creative and authentic media from your country (songs, dances, foods, literature,
etc). You will have a minimum of 8 sentences but are free to elaborate. You will turn in the
rough draft to be corrected, then you will be expected to write a final copy to turn in on the day
of your presentation.

For the presentation day, you must have a slideshow/prezi with pictures of your travels. If you
would like to use another presentation tool please speak with the teacher. You must have a title
slide with your names, country map and flag and then at least two slides about each
place/experience. You may use your final copy as a guide as we look at the pictures of your
adventures, but you should NOT be reading directly off of it the entire time. You may also record
your speaking into the presentation. Then, you will turn in the final copy as part of your grade.

The presentation will be worth 30 points, the accuracy and relevance of the experiences/places
you chose will be worth 30 points, and the final copy will be worth 30 points. You can view the
rubrics to be used for grading in the folder online.
