In teaching and learning

Mother Tongue- Based

Multilingual Education (MTB-
MLE) there are eight guiding
principles according to the K-
12 Basic Curriculum.

This is the only thing objective

that I wanted my students to
achieve at the end of the
lesson.

In the context of
MTBMLE, active learning
strategies are employed to
facilitate the acquisition of
language skills and content
knowledge in the learners'
mother tongue. These
strategies aim to create an
environment where students
actively use and apply the
language, leading to a
deeper understanding of
concepts and improved
language proficiency.
Active learning has
various strategies.
Students are encouraged to
ask questions, investigate, and
explore topics of interest.
They engage in research,
experiments, and problem-
solving activities, promoting
critical thinking and a deeper
understanding of concepts.

Students work on projects

that require them to apply
their language skills and
knowledge to real-life
situations or authentic tasks.
They collaborate with their
peers to plan, design, and
present their projects,
fostering teamwork,
creativity, and
communication skills.

Students work in small

groups to complete tasks
or projects, promoting
collaboration,
communication, and
social interaction. They
actively participate,
discuss ideas, and support
each other's learning.
Students engage in role-
playing activities or
dramatic presentations
related to topics or
stories in their mother
tongue. This approach
allows them to practice
language skills, develop
empathy, and deepen
their understanding of
cultural contexts.

Educational games and

simulations are used to
reinforce language skills
and content knowledge.
These interactive
activities make learning
enjoyable, promote
language use, and
provide opportunities for
practice and
reinforcement.

The principles of meaning

and accuracy are integral
to effective teaching and
learning in any
educational context,
including MTBMLE.
MTBMLE emphasizes the
importance of meaningful
learning experiences. This
principle encourages
educators to design
activities and lessons that
connect to the learners'
interests, experiences,
and local contexts. By
relating new knowledge
and skills to real-life
situations and meaningful
contexts, learners can

MTBMLE recognizes the need

for accuracy in language use.
Teachers play a crucial role in
ensuring that learners develop
proficiency in their mother
tongue, Filipino, and English
while maintaining grammatical,
lexical, and semantic accuracy.
This includes providing clear
models of correct language use,
providing constructive feedback
on students' language
production, and creating
opportunities for practice and
refinement.

The concept of language

learning and language
transfer is indeed relevant
and important within the
context of MTBMLE.
MTBMLE recognizes
that language learning
is a fundamental aspect
of education. It
acknowledges that
learners acquire and
develop proficiency in
multiple languages
throughout their
educational journey,
including their mother
tongue, Filipino, and
English.

Principle 8, which emphasizes

the affective component of
valuing the home language and
culture, is an essential aspect of
Mother Tongue-Based
Multilingual Education
(MTBMLE).
By valuing and affirming
learners' home
language and culture,
educators create a
supportive and inclusive
learning environment.
This helps learners
develop a strong sense
of pride and belonging,
which can positively
impact their motivation,
engagement, and
overall well-being.

Recognizing and validating

the home language and
culture of learners helps
create a sense of belonging
and acceptance within the
classroom. When learners see
their language and culture
represented and respected in
educational settings, they are
more likely to feel valued,
understood, and connected
to their learning community.

This enables learners to

appreciate and respect
their own culture as well as
the cultures of others. It
helps foster cultural
competence, empathy, and
intercultural
communication skills.
Valuing the home language
and culture in MTBMLE
encourages active
engagement and
involvement of parents and
the community.

I thank them for their

Participation.
