MES 752 Machine Design Sessional Assignment

[A] A company received an order to deliver 20 units of Single Stage Straight Tooth
Speed-reducer Spur Gear Box complying with the following specifications:
 Power to transmit =5.6kW
 Input speed = 1470 (Approx.)
 Transmission ratio = 3
 Bearing life should be at least 2 years
 Type of duty: 8 to 10 hours per day under medium shock
Provide a complete design for the gear box including the selection of appropriate bearings
indicating required fits and tolerances wherever necessary.

[B] Submit full calculation (in A4 size paper only) with Name and Roll No. on top right corner of
all the t pages. A photocopy of the same should be retained for subsequent drawing.

[C] Make detailed production drawing for the Gear Box with showing:
1. Assembly drawing:
(a) Half-sectional elevation
(b) Plan with top cover removed
(c) Sectional side elevation with section plane passing through gear axis.
2. Detailed Drawing for the following parts:
Wheels, Shafts, Bearing covers
(Part drawing for the gear box housing is not required.)
3. Make a detailed gear table (indicating all the details of the gear pair).
4. Make the Bill of materials.

[D] Important:

 Provide a margin of 20mm on all sides of the A1 size drawing sheet having the name
plate in the bottom right corner.
 Come prepared with the calculation ready in all respect and the margin and name
plate drawn on the drawing sheet.
 Freely make use of Design Data Book (Indian Standard) for selecting important data.
Also the class note of MEC503 will be helpful.
 A free hand pencil sketch (with important dimensions) will be helpful before starting
the actual drawing.
