問題意識
In fact, in some case of stability of our self-identity might be inversely
proportional to fixed stories we tell about ourselves. Elaborating
storytelling might serve a compensatory function as an attempt to make
lack of coherent self-identity.
Zaharvi 引述 Jopling 的說法認為 narrative self 要符合 (1)internally
coherent (2)externally coherrent (3) applicable to current life situation (4)
fit with narrative-transcendent facts
又引述Dennet 的說法：It has no reality; it is merely a fictional center of
narrative grativity.
問題意識

而在p.108 Zharhavi 引述 Ricoeur的說法，提出："what is X"、"Is x at t1

identical to y at t2"。前者是 identity of the self，後者是identity of the same。
我將前者理解為自我同一性問題，將後者理解為繼承問題。

Zarhavi認為前者是第一人稱問題，但後者是第三人稱問題。但我認為，後者
在第一人稱也是要處理的問題。因為照Jopling的說法narrative self 要符合
internally coherent。(1)internally coherent，我認為尚且要在與記憶統合，形
成連貫的歷史性，才可能(2)externally coherrent與外在條件契合，達成(3)
applicable to current life situation。
論證

1. Minimal Self 不是不變動，而能透過Narrative self 影響

2. Narrative Self 必須 interanally coherent
3. 因此，每當Minimal Self獲取資訊時，Narrative self便行加工。
4. 若Minimal Self 得到資訊時，Narrative self便行加工，那便沒有所謂的純
然的Minimal Self 發生在自我意識中，因為當意識到的時候，便自動經
過一定程度的Narrative
舉例
● 如果Minimal Self 可以單獨運作，而不即時地由Narrative Self，那我們會看
到一個割裂的人。他無須記得前一刻，僅僅依靠純粹的感觀資訊來反應。
例如：昆蟲看到光便趨近。
● 但人不是這樣，人會在口渴的時候，掙扎要不要喝水。以維持(1)internally
coherent (2)externally coherrent (3) applicable to current life situation。也就
是說，人在有意識到自我的時候，總是在為了維持自己的整全性（integrity）
而掙扎的自我。
● Narrative self的存在，正是因為Minimal Self 的無力整全，而整全Minimal
Self的開始，便是自我意識的開始。因此，自我意識便是Narrative Self的運
作。而非Minimal Self 。
