Introduction:
The Community Development Project focuses on environmental conservation

and study. The project aimed to address the challenges faced by the
community in relation to environmental issues and helps in developing skills
to promote unique idea among public aiming to originate substantial and
sustainable development bringing in difference in the community at large.
This report highlights the activities and initiatives undertaken to promote
environmental awareness and bring about positive change in the community.
Bharat Vikas Parishad
Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP), founded in 1963 on the birth anniversary of

Swami Vivekananda is a right-wing voluntary organization. It was initially
formed with name - Citizens Council to mobilize people against Chinese
attacks on Indian territory but was later renamed and registered as a society
on 10 July 1963.
Bharat Vikas Parishad is a voluntary organization where citizens from all

walks of life join to work for the development and growth of our country in
all fields of human endeavour through promoting a sense of patriotism,
national unity and integrity and culminating in Swasth-Samarth-Sanskarit
Bharat i.e. physically, economically and morally strong India.
Its primary purpose is to organize Indian citizens for philanthropic work.

Problem Identification and the Cause of the Problem:
Gurdaspur City located in Punjab, India faces several environmental

challenges. The problems include improper waste management, scarcity of
clean drinking water, air pollution from industrial and vehicular emissions,
and a lack of awareness about environmental conservation practices. These
issues stem from inadequate infrastructure, contamination of water sources,
industrial activities, and a lack of education and community engagement.
Addressing these problems through improved waste management, water
infrastructure, pollution control, and awareness programs is crucial for a
sustainable future in Gurdaspur.
Objective to be Achieved:
▪ To raise awareness about environmental conservation and encourage

the adoption of sustainable practices. Aimed to empower community
members and citizens with the knowledge and skills necessary to
protect and preserve the environment.
▪ To solve the problem of consumption of impure water in order to save

citizens from harmful effects of water pollution and to reduce reliance
on plastic bottles.
▪ To encourage citizens to take necessary steps for the solution of

unhealthy air quality index.
▪ To motivate students to generate new innovative ideas and to

implement them for the environmental conservation and awareness.
▪ To maintain a good practice of waste management among citizens to

get a clean and pure environment.
Various Steps Taken to Achieve the Objectives:
To achieve the project objectives, the following steps were taken:
▪ Awareness Campaign:
Awareness campaign conducted in a school of Gurdaspur was a pivotal

step towards promoting sustainable practices and fostering a sense of
responsibility towards the environment among students and community
members. The campaign involved an interactive session where
participants were provided with comprehensive information about
various sustainable practices, including waste reduction, recycling,
energy conservation, and air quality preservation.
The session aimed to create awareness among the attendees by

enlightening them about the detrimental effects of unsustainable
practices on the environment and human health.
The awareness campaign served as a platform to inspire students and

community members to generate their ideas for environmental
conservation. Participants were encouraged to think creatively and
develop innovative solutions to address local environmental challenges.
The campaign aimed to nurture a sense of ownership and engagement,
fostering a generation of environmentally conscious individuals who
actively contribute to sustainable development.
▪ Establishment of water purifier:
Recognizing the issue of contaminated water, a pure water cooler was

installed in a local school. This step was taken to address the scarcity of
clean drinking water and protect the health of children. The installation
of the water cooler aimed to provide access to safe and clean drinking
water, reducing the reliance on plastic bottles and minimizing the
health risks associated with consuming polluted water. This initiative
not only contributed to improving the health and well-being of the
students but also served as a model for other institutions and
communities to emulate. and reduced reliance on plastic bottles as
students used to carry the plastic bottles, which further were not
properly decomposed after the usage. This initiative also reduced the
plastic pollution by decreasing the usage of plastic bottles.
▪ Plantation Drive:
To enhance the green cover and restore biodiversity, a tree plantation

drive was organized in collaboration with local community members,
volunteers of the organization, and students. The drive involved the
planting of a variety of native trees in designated areas. Trees play a
crucial role in mitigating air pollution, conserving water, and providing
habitat for various species. By involving the community in the
plantation drive, the project aimed to foster a sense of ownership and
responsibility towards the environment. The initiative not only
beautified the surroundings but also contributed to creating a more
sustainable and balanced ecosystem with a hope to maintain the
unhealthy air quality index of Gurdaspur city to relief citizens
(especially senior citizens and heart disease patients) from polluted air
and protection from consequences of polluted air.
▪ Environmental Conservation Contest:
In order to engage students and encourage their active participation in

environmental preservation efforts, an environmental conservation
contest was organized. Students were invited to showcase their ideas
through paintings and slogans related to environmental conservation.
The contest aimed to foster creativity, raise awareness, and empower
students to become advocates for sustainable practices. By providing a
platform for students to express their thoughts and ideas, the project
sought to inspire a new generation of environmentally conscious
individuals who would drive positive change in their communities.
▪ Clean-up Drive:
The clean-up drive organized was a significant initiative undertaken to

address the issue of litter and promote cleanliness in the area. The drive
aimed to create a healthier environment by actively involving
community members and volunteers in the clean-up activities.
Various spots within the region were identified as target areas for the
clean-up drive. These spots included public parks, streets and other
areas that had accumulated litter over time. By targeting multiple
locations, the project aimed to have a widespread impact and create a
visible difference in the cleanliness of the community.
Community members and volunteers played a vital role in the success

of the clean-up drive. Their active participation and commitment
demonstrated their dedication to maintaining a clean and sustainable
living environment.
The clean-up drive not only had visible results but also had a ripple
effect on the community. It served as an inspiration for others to take
similar initiatives and contribute to environmental preservation. The
project aimed to create a domino effect, where the actions of a few
motivated individuals would influence and encourage others to join the
cause. By fostering a collective responsibility, the clean-up drive aimed
to create a long-lasting impact on the community's behavior towards
waste management and cleanliness.
Furthermore, the clean-up drive was not a one-time event but rather
part of an ongoing effort to promote a cleaner and healthier
environment. Regular clean-up activities were planned to sustain the
positive change achieved through the initial drive. This approach
ensured that cleanliness became an integral part of the community's
routine and mindset, leading to a more sustainable and hygienic living
environment in the long run.

Effectiveness of the Project:
The effectiveness of the project was evident through its positive

contributing to the restoration of biodiversity and an aim to improve the
air quality index of the city. Additionally, the installation of the pure
water cooler played a crucial role in ensuring access to clean drinking
water, promoting better health and reducing plastic waste. The
organized clean-up drive effectively improved the cleanliness of the
park, fostering a healthier environment for all. Furthermore, the
environmental conservation contest not only showcased the creative
ideas and enthusiasm of students but also inspired them to actively
participate in environmental preservation efforts. Overall, the project's
effectiveness was evident in the positive impact it had on awareness,
community participation, and behavior change.
Identified Societal Problems:
Through the project, two societal problems were identified:
▪ Pollution:
The increasing pollution levels in the community, including air,

water, and soil pollution, pose a significant threat to public health
and the environment.
▪ Waste Management:
Improper waste management practices contribute to the

accumulation of waste and environmental degradation. Effective
waste management systems need to be implemented to ensure a
cleaner and healthier community.
Conclusion:
The Community Development Project on environmental conservation and

study has undeniably made significant strides in addressing the identified
issues and promoting sustainable practices. Through its various initiatives
and activities, the project successfully created awareness among students and
community members about the importance of environmental preservation.
The interactive sessions and awareness campaigns played a crucial role in
instilling a sense of responsibility and encouraging behavior change.
Furthermore, the establishment of a pure water cooler in a school not only

provided clean drinking water to students but also contributed to reducing
plastic waste generated from disposable bottles. The tree plantation drive
