Hello!

In 2014, while teaching A Level Physics, I began recording

videos solely intended for my classes since I couldn’t find
suitable material for the courses I taught. However, upon sharing
them on YouTube, their popularity steadily grew.

In 2018, I made the descision to leave my position as Head of

Science and devote myself full-time to Physics Online. Since
then, I have achieved significant milestones, creating over 1,000
videos and branched out into other educational resources
including books and digital downloads.

My ultimate goal has been to provide students with authentic

and readily available support whenever they require it, while
simultaneously assisting teachers in reducing their workload
through the provision of trusted resources they can confidently
rely on for their teaching.

This Teacher Guide showcases just some of the support I have to

offer. If you ever need help, have questions or wish to share
suggestions, please feel free to reach out by email to
hello@physicsonline.com

School Subscriptions
To access hundreds of additional videos and resources that
support all the topics for GCSE or A Level Physics there are
School Subscription packages available.

All students and teachers at your school have access to the

entire website, with everything organised by exam board and
by topic.

This is perfect for supporting work in class, for homework tasks or

for the students to independently use as they’re revising for tests
and exams.

You can trust that everything has been produced by a qualified

specialist physics teacher and that it is the type of content that
thousands of students are choosing to watch every day.

How to Login
Simply select your exam board (AQA, Edexcel, OCR etc) and
then chose the topic. When prompted simply enter the login
details for your school. That’s it.

To ensure the best experience for your students, remember to

share the school login details with them. When introducing the
website, take the opportunity to demonstrate its features and
functionality, guiding them on how to make the most of the
available resources. Furthermore, offer suggestions on various
ways the resources can be effectively used, empowering
students to maximise their learning potential.

AQA Atomic Structure

In this section we look inside the atom and the subatomic world.
This is where things start to get really strange!

Mockup of Atomic Structure Page

Chose your topic:
• Atoms [FREE] - Never trust an atom - they make up everything!

• Nuclear Radiation - Unstable isotopes emit particles from their nucleus

• Uses of Radiation - Radioactive sources are incredibly useful for many applications

• Nuclear Equations - These show what happens when alpha, beta and gamma are emitted

• Half-life - The time it takes for the number of nuclei in a sample to halve

• Hazards of Radiation - There are a few dangers....

• Background Radiation - You can't escape it, you are currently being irradiated

• Medical Uses of Radioactivity - Radioactivity, although hazardous, has many benefits

• Fission and Fusion - Releasing energy from splitting, or joining, nuclei

“Lewis's videos enhance independent study
markedly. They have become embedded into
student routines and every year they come top
in terms of the popularity of resources we offer
when we do exit questionnaires.

You can trust the videos on PhysicsOnline as

they have been created by a passionate and
experienced teacher who understands deeply
the courses we teach.”

Thandiwe Banda

As a teacher I have used the books in the following ways:

1. Building confidence in maths skills - A lot of students lack the

basic mathamatical skills needed to transition to A Level due to
lack of mastery, so the books helped them recap core
concepts.

2. Intervention - Students who, for various reasons, are behind can

use the books to catch up. The dates in the books help chunk
tasks and get students into a routine. An observation has been
my students have gotten faster over time at things like SI units
and applying mathematical rules which is excellent.

3. Retrieval - A Level students sometimes are neglected when it

comes to retrieval and the books make it easy to do retrieval
linked to learning and each student can work at their own
pace. Routines are essential even at A Level and the books are
an easy way to manage this.

4. Year 11 Transition - I have also used the books for those students
that will do Physics at A Level as stretch activities: as some
students are ahead of their peers mathematically so book 1
and 2 can be started early.

Additionally, it is beautifully presented and considerably cheaper

than printing! Our senior leaders have commented on how
organised our subject is in terms of resources and this is in part due
to the workbooks.

“The books have been used as homework where we do the booklet

every day for 5 mins” - Year 12 Student

Physics Online Ltd
Since starting as a part-time YouTube channel, it has now grown
into a full-time business.

In addition to the resources I make for Physics Online Ltd, I have

produced videos for organisations including The Ogden Trust
and the Royal Academy of Engineering. I also work with local
schools delivering CPD as part of the Stimulating Physics
Network.

As the business has grown, I now have a team of great people

supporting the work I do. James (business manager and
part-time Economics and Business teacher), Rufus (social media
and video editing) and Joe (Physics graduate and content
creator) have been with me for several years and many other
teachers have helped with creating new resources in the last
few years.

Your support has made this happen and there is a lot more to
come in the next few years!
