Power House

Power house is located in the north of Aek Sipang River, on a small hill which surrounded by moderately
steep-slope to steep-slope morphological unit (slope 15° to 30°). The location is also covered by dense
vegetation of tress.

Power house site consists of soft weathered Toba Tuff in varying thickness, approximately 2.0 to 3.0 m
deep. However the outcrops of hard Toba Tuff were observed at Aek Sipang river distributed up to 3.0 m
of water level. Big excavation is required to get design elevation of power house. Therefore the
foundation of power house is foreseen found on moderately hard bedrock Toba Tuff which is seemed
has enough bearing capacity and shear strength for foundation.

Excavated slope of power house site with slope gradient H:V=1:2 could be applied. However it is
recommended to strenghten the slope with retaining wall or shotcrete. Meanwhile the upper slope shall
be more gentle to secure the slope stability since it consists of weathered Toba Tuff hence slope
protection is not required. Furthermore, an adequate drainage, like channels and drainage ditches, will
be needed to flow the water and avoid water accumulation that could generate failure.
