Part 3. Question 16-20: In this section, you will read a reading passage which is followed by several
questions about it. For question 16-20, choose the one best answer A, B, C or D. Then on your answer
sheet, find the number of the question and write your answer with A, B, C or D.
Scientists have discovered that the ozone layer is getting thinner. Some predict that the sun’s
rays will cause a sharp increase in deaths from skin cancer over the next fifty years. These harmful rays
can also damage the eyes, create wrinkles, and cause other health problems.
The stratosphere contains a form of oxygen called ozone. Ozone is a molecule composed of
three oxygen atoms. The chemical formula of Ozone is O3. Oxygen molecules make up about 21 % of
all gases in the Earth’s atmosphere. They consist of two atoms of oxygen and one labeled O 2. Most
ozone found in our atmosphere is formed by an interaction between oxygen molecules and ultraviolet
radiation (UV) from the sun. When ultraviolet radiation hits an oxygen molecule, it may cause the
molecule to break apart into single atoms of oxygen. These single atoms are very reactive, and a single
oxygen atom can combine with a molecule of oxygen to form ozone.
16 What do people say about the rate of deaths from skin cancer in the future?
.
A. It will increase sharply. C. It will be sharp increase.
B. It will sharp increase. D. It will cause a sharp increase.
17 How many oxygen atoms are there in a molecule?
.
A. There is one. B. There are two C. There are three. D. There are four.
18 What elements participate in the formation process of ozone?
.
A. They are oxygen molecules and ultraviolet radiation from the moon.
B. They are oxygen molecules and ultraviolet radiation from the sun.
C. They are oxygen molecules or ultraviolet radiation from the sun.
D. They are gas and ultraviolet radiation from the sun.
19 What happens when an oxygen molecule and an ultraviolet radiation hit each other?
.
A. The molecule breaks apart into single atoms of oxygen.
B. The molecule breaks apart into plural atoms of oxygen.
C. The molecule combines into single atoms of oxygen.
D. The molecule combines to single atoms of oxygen.
20 What is the feature of single atoms?
.
A. They are quiet. B. They are dangerous. C. They are harmless. D. They are reactive.
Part 4. Question 21-30: In this section, you will read a reading passage with ten blanks marked from
21-30. Read the passage very carefully and then fill in each blank with one suitable word/ phrase
chosen from the box. Then on your answer sheet, find the number of the question and write your
answer with A, B, C or D.
A. to E. from I. include M. types
B. protects F. survived J. called N. noise
C. contains G. polluted K. said O. noisy
D. destroys H. living L. survival P. pollution
There are three main (21) _____ of pollution: air pollution, water pollution and noise pollution. Air,
which is the most important element of our environment for our (22) _____, can be polluted in many
ways. Smoke in the air form mills, factories and industry (23) _____ carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide,
and methane, which are all poisonous gages. This leads (24) _____ health problems like asthma and
lung diseases, and the thinning of the ozone layer, which (25) _____ us from harmful UV rays. China,
the USA, Russia, India, Mexico and Japan are the world leaders in air (26) _____ emissions. Water is
also (27) _____ by the discharge of commercial and industrial waste. Sewage in drinking water in
another cause of water pollution as it contains germs and viruses. The (28) ____ of vehicles, mills and
factories can be really unbearable. This kind of constant sound also causes headaches, tension, mental
stress and migraines. People (29) _____ next to a building site where there is too much noise can
become sick, as they cannot sleep or relax. This is (30) _____ noise pollution.
C. WRITING
PART 1- Questions 31-35: Rewrite the sentences using the words given so that the second sentence
means the same as the first. Then, on your answer sheet, find the number of the question and write the
missing words.
Example: We don't allow smoking in this restaurant. => Smoking is not allowed in this restaurant.
This is part of a letter you receive from an English friend. Now write a letter to your friend.
