BULAN, JULIE FAITH A.

PH DIPLOMACY
BA POL SCI 4 SEPTEMBER 2022

In July 1914, Austria-Hungary issued an ultimatum to Serbia, which played a critical role in the
outbreak of World War I. Following the death of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, both countries
became entangled in a web of hostility.
The ultimatum had been an instrument for Austria-Hungary to start a war since before the
assassination, Austria had a history of not liking Serbia. This became the wake-up call for the Serbian
government to fight against the deal with Austria.
If I were the head of the state at that time, I will not accept the ultimatum and fight for my
country’s sovereignty but also be ready to open negotiations, revisions, and limitations of the said deal. I
will accept in a way that the sovereignty of my citizens will be protected. I am willing to conduct a
peaceful talk that will work so that my government and Austria will meet halfway and respond to the
demands but with limitations that had been legally agreed upon.
My goal as a head of state is the formation and protection of sustainable freedom for the Siberian
citizens even if it is under Austria-Hungary, even if we surrendered our sovereignty, human rights and
humanitarian ideals shall continue to be promoted and protected.
On the other side, in case the Austria-Hungarian Empire did not agree to our request. As the head
state, we need to prepare for the defense military, it is to commit to the growth of security and stability of
our people in case war will be declared during agreements.
I believe that this talk and agreement between Austria in a diplomatic way will later become a
key to peace and stability between nations. As previously said, the primary aim of diplomacy is to
maintain peaceful ties between countries. Negotiating commercial deals, discussing mutual difficulties,
establishing new regulations, and resolving conflicts.
