Physics Laboratory Individual Report

I. DISCUSSION OF THEORY (10 points)

- The discussion of theory contains information relevant to the experiment. It should give a clear

background information based on a thorough literature search.

- Minimum of 3 pages, handwritten, and lettering size of not more than 3 cm. Use BLACK INK (you may

use regular ball point or technical pen of 0.3 or 0.4 tip size).

- References used should be written on a separate page at the end of the discussion in APA format. For

APA reference formats, you may refer to

https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/references/examples/book-references

- This report has to be submitted before the start of the day’s experiment.

II. DIAGRAM OF SET-UP (10 points)

 Draw a set-up of the apparatus. Label all parts of the set-up.

 Insert photos or images showing you performing the experiment or with the set-up of the experiment.

Iii. DATA AND RESULTS (10 points)

 Data should be complete and neatly presented in the tables/spaces provided in the manual. (Remove the

pages of the section for DATA and RESULTS in your manual and insert the pages in your individual reports).

 Data should be consistent with your group data which has been checked.

 All data with a value should have a proper unit (SI unit) and variable name.

 Questions required under Data and Results should be answered.

IV. GRAPHS/CHARTS/DIAGRAMS (10 points)

 Required graphs must be plotted on millimeter graphing papers.

 One graph per graphing paper.

 Coordinate axes must be a straight edge and each axis must have a clear label followed by the units of the

labeled quantity in parenthesis.

 The scale used on each axis must be clearly stated and easy to read.

 All plotted points must be small and made clear and easy to read.

 Write a title above each graph. It should clearly differentiate the graph from any others.

For example, “Graph 1. Velocity-Time Graph”

V. COMPUTATIONS (10 points)

 Calculation with a proper equation must be clear and readable.

 Results from calculation should reflect the significant figures of data measured in experiment.

 All final answers should include the units.

VI. OBSERVATIONS AND CONCLUSIONS (10 points)

 Clearly explain how the analysis was done (what physics theory/principles/concepts were used?)

 Possible sources of error are identified.

 Discuss whether your results are reasonable and compare with any physics principles.

 Discuss if the results met the objectives for the lab.

 Use or cite any reference to support your discussion.

 Convincingly describe what has been learned from the experiment.

VII. ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS AND PROBLEMS (10 points)

 Copy and answer the questions/problems given at the end of each experiment in the physics laboratory

manual.

 Solutions to problems should be shown in a systematic manner, all necessary diagrams shown, and all

numerical answers given with the correct simplified units.
