 Cap Bank Standard Operating Procedure:

 All Power & Control Connections are Properly tightened and connected as
per drawing
 Panel filters are dust free and Fans are working properly to ensure proper
ventilation. Air Filters are to be checked periodically during maintenance
activities to avoid any blockage in Air Flow.
 Ensure outdoor APFC Panel and PLC Panel is connected to Earth properly
 All interconnections control and auxiliary power cables between Indoor
PLC Panel and Outdoor APFC Panel are connected properly as per drawing
and cable schedule
 All REV-615 protection relays are healthy in PLC Panel
 PLC Module & HMI is not having any error
 All status is showing properly in HMI and PLC
 Below process can be followed during Testing without 33kV Power Line:
 Keep Upstream Circuit Breaker Open
 Keep Isolator Open
 Keep E/Sw Close
 Force Feedback of Isolator Close, E/Sw Open and Upstream CB
Close Status to check Stage Vacuum Contactor Operation from PLC
Panel
 Ensure no foreign particles are there after completion of
Testing/Maintenance activities
 Ensure all doors are properly closed of Incomer and Stages after completion
of testing/maintenance activities

 All terminals to be tightened with proper torque as per chart mentioned

below during maintenance:

 Below process can be followed during Charging the Cap Bank with 33kV
Power Line:
 Close APFC Incomer Isolator and Open E/Sw
 All doors of APFC Panel is closed properly
 Castle lock is locked properly
 Check all Status in PLC Panel
 Upstream Circuit Breaker is closed
 1 LED of Closing Allowable is GREEN on REV-615 relay of all stages
 ON/OFF command to be given Automatically by PLC to Stages when
selector switch in AUTO mode
 ON/OFF command to be given Manually by Physical Push Button on panel
or Soft Push Buttons in HMI to Stages when selector switch in MANUAL
mode

 DON’Ts OF APFC PANEL:

 Do not bypass any Protection of REV-615 relay

 Do not bypass Discharge timer of REV-615 relay
 Do not bypass Castle Lock interlock to avoid Isolator operation on load
 Do not touch capacitors, reactors and other components inside APFC Panel
without earthing the same during maintenance/testing activities
 Do not over tight any terminals of Capacitor Bushing. Maintain 20Nm
torque during tightness check of capacitor terminals. It may get damaged if
apply over tightness.

Following activities to be done during emergency maintenance at the time of O/C, E/F
or Unbalance fault of any stage:

1. Physical verification of all components including insulators

2. Check Reactors Inductance
3. Check Capacitors Capacitance
4. Check Insulation resistance of Overall system with 5kV Megger, Phase to Earth
5. Check operation of Vacuum Contactors
6. Check CRM of Vacuum Contactors
7. Check CT, PT & NCT healthiness

Share the results with Service team for further guidance during
emergency maintenance.
