THE PLAYHUB MARKETING PLAN

Proposed Company Logo

COMPANY HISTORY

On April 5, 2013, a bright play experience was born at the end of Iloilo River, Esplanade,
Tabucan, Mandurriao. This bright conception placed the "other" hooked end to Brighton School of Multiple
Learning.

Both businesses, currently owned by the Divinagracia Family, incorporate an outdoor playground
experience for children. Mrs. Kathrina Divinagracia, a UP Psychology graduate and ADMU Master Degree
in Special Education and now the manager, named it THE PLAYHUB. The term playhub is derived from
the concept of playground, an outdoor playing ground designed for children to play on and enjoy
themselves. By virtue of zeal, she wanted to practice her passion for child development and that includes
involvement with the natural environment. It is noteworthy to point out that today’s children are changing
their lifestyles by means of technological advancements, so it is a perfect timing to regain the connotation
that “Playing is fun. Playing outside is even better,” as their tagline suggests.

According to Mrs.Divinagracia, THE PLAYHUB idea sprouted just 2 weeks before the launch of
another adjacent business called Cholabite Refreshment Restaurant. The said business is aimed to
provide a snack bar venue not only for THE PLAYHUB customers but also for the strolling public and
joggers alongside the Esplanade. The Divinagracia family noted, however, that there was enough space
near the refreshment area making it appealing to set up the said playground.

At present, THE PLAYHUB is operating on several pedal carts and a trampoline for everyone.
The middle area is made vacant for setting up an advanced playground system which will form another
key to a healthy body, healthy mind and long life. So never leave THE PLAYHUB.

MARKET TARGET(S) DESCRIPTION

Initially, Playhub wanted to put up a venue for children to engage in outdoor activity. The
children’s desire to play and enjoy is one need the company wants to cater to. But eventually, the owners
realized that the hub is not only for children to enjoy but for teens and adults as well.

Customer Profile

Playhub divides the market into two; children and adults (including teens). This is evident in the
products they offer wherein Go Karts have two sizes, small carts for children less than 5 feet tall and big
carts for customers taller than 5 feet. Ages of children who visit and play at the hub ranges from 3 to
years old. The adult market, on the other hand, have as old as 60.
Customers of the hub come in groups. For children, they are usually accompanied by their
parents or other members of the family. It is one way for families to spend quality time together, especially
during weekends and holidays. For teens and adults, they visit the place together with their circle of
friends. The place is actually a good venue for group activities, even in large numbers.
The Playhub offers an environment that encourages physical activity, social interaction, and
emotional development. These are some of the reasons why children are attracted to the place.
Customers who prefer outdoor recreation would also come and enjoy at the hub.
Most of the customers that Playhub caters are geographically located within the city. Since it is
strategically located in the Esplanade, the place is very accessible for all. The place is also surrounded by
schools and business establishments where students and employees might take a break after long hours
of physical inactivity.

The Primary Target market of the company are the kids aged 5 to 14 years old. In Iloilo City
alone, there are 77, 854 of this age bracket according to the National Statistics Office data of 2010. Next

8
June 25, 2013
THE PLAYHUB MARKETING PLAN

to this are those aged 15 to 60 years old. The total population for this bracket is 269, 397. The primary
and secondary targets has been chose according to the availability of the carts.

According to the NSO Survey on Percent Distribution of Family Expenditure by Expenditure Item
for the Bottom 30 Percent and Upper 70 Percent Income Group: 2006 and 2009, families are willing to
spend 0.4% of their income for recreation. As such, we will relate this to our previous data. The estimated
part of the population pie for the company is 10 percent of the potential market. The 10 percent is realistic
in the sense that the hub can accommodate the population of 34, 724 in one year. That is around 95
customers per day.

The location of the hub is also being developed by the city government which will provide more
opportunities for the business and will bring in more customers for them.

Analysis of Key Competitors

Kevin’s Toys & Library

Dave’s Funhouse

THE PLAYHUB MARKETING PLAN

Little Martians

Product/Service

The three indirect competitors have ‘indoor playgrounds’ as their product. These playgrounds
have toys for the kids, along with playing equipment like slides, ladders, and little houses to play with.
The whole area is enclosed for the safety of the kids. The competitors positioned their product as a
safe place where parents can leave them with a guardian or the store’s trained staff. The whole
concept allows playing interactively with other children in the area.

Place

Mall shopping is the new pastime these days, and SM City Iloilo, Plazuela de Iloilo, and
Robinsons Place Iloilo are among the top places to visit. This is also the place where the competitors
are located.

Dave’s Funhouse is located at SM City and Robinsons Place, Kevin’s Toys & Library is at SM
City, while Little Martians is at Plazuela de Iloilo. Being located in the malls, these key competitors are
easily accessed by customers and at the same time, it provides convenience to the parents.
Price
Prices are similarly the same for the three stores starting at P95 for 30 minutes during regular
days and P100 for weekends and holidays and can cost up to P280 to P330 for unlimited play time. As
there are no established pricing, the stores somehow follows competitor price.

Customers may not be price sensitive, as more and more parents always give what’s best for
their children. Discount is not a factor for the service, but price adjustments are made if the kids play
longer in their stores.

THE PLAYHUB MARKETING PLAN

A ‘quick survey’ showed that most of the stores are full during holidays and weekends. These are
considered as the peak times of the competitors.

Probably these stores did their advertising when they opened, but as of now, there seems to be
no marketing plans from them. All the stores don’t have an established marketing plan, as they rely
mostly from the crowd of the mall and word of mouth. Listed below is a list of promotional activities,
mainly party packages and calendar of activities for the year-round. The Playhub might see this as a
venue for growth and customer traffic.

OBJECTIVE FOR THE MARKET TARGETS

The objective of the company is to capture at least 10 percent of its target market in order to
operate at its full potential as of the moment, considering the number of available carts and the area of
the hub. In order to achieve this, the company plans to implement marketing strategies.
Since the company is the only hub in Iloilo that offers outdoor activities unlike its closest
competitors that are located inside the malls, the company will try to benchmark in its target market which
is Iloilo City.

The target Sales by December 2013 is Php 316, 000.00 that is expected to provide the profit of
Php 219, 000.00.

MARKETING PROGRAM POSITIONING STRATEGY

Nowadays, kids are more inclined to play video games or play inside their houses unlike before
that games are played in the streets or at the lawn of the houses. In this idea sprouted the purpose of The

13
June 25, 2013
THE PLAYHUB MARKETING PLAN

PLayhub to be able to offer outdoor activities to kids and kids at heart in order for them to be able to get
the feel that playing outside will give them more fun than facing the computer, PSP or playing indoors.

The company also aims to improve the health condition of people. Exercise is one requirement in
order to obtain a healthy lifestyle. In this purpose sprouted the idea of The Playhub. Playing indoors is fun
but playing outside is better and can help in achieving a healthy body.

A. PRODUCT STRATEGY

The Play Hub is aiming to increase the number of pedal karts, where they originally started with
11 only. The company is gradually adding more Go Karts as demand for the hub increases.

The whole area of the playground is currently being developed. The center of the racetrack is a
vacant space where only one trampoline is installed. As part of its mission of holistically developing every
child visiting the place, a covered structure can be put up at the center island where a playhouse, some
slides, little houses, toys, etc. can be installed. Other than the karts, these new product lines can cater to
the toddlers/kids ages 1 to 3 years old who are not yet capable of using Go Karts.

Another addition to the product line of Berg kart is called Gran Tour, an amazingly attractive
family pedal go-kart ideal for two adults and two children, would make family bonding much more
enjoyable. For adults, this would make them feel like children again.

Furthermore, The Playhub might also vie for an accessory equipment called “sunroof” to protect
its riders from sun and rain. Not only would it surely make riding much more enjoyable, but it would also
help compensate especially for lean seasons.

14
June 25, 2013
THE PLAYHUB MARKETING PLAN

Sample Pedal Kart with Sunroof

The number of customers playing at the same time should also be controlled. As of the moment,
the number of karts is only 21 and 1 trampoline. But if additional karts will be operating, there should be a
designated maximum number of karts allowed to be used simultaneously as it might cause accidents or
bumping/colliding while playing. An enclosure will also be installed at the rim of the track to prevent kids
from crossing out and go near the road.

Safety signages will also be visibly installed at the track to constantly remind customers to be
cautious all the time. A large tarpaulin of instructions regarding safety at the track will be placed beside
the waiting area and cashier booth. This is a list of the Do’s and Dont’s that customers should be aware
of. Also, the policy of wearing safety gears while playing should be strictly implemented. The Play Hub
should also consider a lending registration form or waiver with the rider's signature entailing that he
understands and acknowledges the safety measures prior to kart use.

The sales staff assisting the customers will also be oriented regarding safety precautions and
should also be trained on how to perform basic first aid. The company can tap the Philippine National Red
Cross where free training regarding Community First Aid is being offered. The Iloilo City Emergency
Response Team (ICER) can also be contacted anytime for assistance during emergencies. Contact
numbers of the ICER and the nearest police stations such as Molo, Mandurriao, and Iloilo City stations
should be kept handy by all staff and should also be visibly displayed in the hub for fast response during
emergency situations.

For the improvements of the whole playhub, the first thing that the company should do is to
secure the place. The location is an open space wherein no security personnel are stationed at the main
gates and/or roving in the whole area. The Esplanade is situated beside the hub, thus, drawing
bystanders to come to the area. A parking space should also be designated in one place only to avoid the
cluttering of cars/vehicles.

To attract more customers, the place should present itself as a safe one not only in the tracks but
also in the whole place.

15
June 25, 2013
THE PLAYHUB MARKETING PLAN

B. DISTRIBUTION STRATEGY

The Play Hub is located at the end of the Iloilo River Esplanade at Tabucan Mandurriao, making it
the very first outdoor playground and Go Kart Track in Iloilo City.

The market coverage of the place is widely available for all age groups. However, if a customer
wants to avail of the product, they must go to the Esplanade only. This is because The Playhub has only
one outlet/branch as of the moment. Future expansion can be considered by the owners, where they
could put up more branches situated in the suburbs or towns outside the city. Potential areas of
consideration could be Sta. Barbara, Oton, and Passi. By doing this, potential customers located outside
the city can also avail of the product. Product awareness or buzz campaign could also tap more potential
customers, especially those in towns. During festivals, The Playhub might consider coordinating with the
municipal government officials to hold a-week long and whole day operation in the plaza where a lot of
children and families can be seen. Price differentiation must be considered prior to municipal income.

The direct sales force handling the customers is only three. These manpower performs
cashiering, monitoring the time of customers playing, manning the booth, assisting the riders/customers,
giving instructions, handling the karts, etc. Since the hub is getting very popular, the total manpower
cannot simultaneously handle all tasks especially during peak time. Additional personnel might be
considered as the hub expands to provide better service.

C. PRICE
The prices of the existing products of The Playhub are competitive to its indirect competitors.

need to keep in tune to Facebook posts. Bring 5 and get a free ride for 1 person and free ride on your

More promotions will be introduced in the coming months. Loyalty cards and The Hub Club are
