ANNOTATIONS FOR
SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 8

Indicator 1. Apply knowledge of content within and across curriculum teaching areas.

Explore
 MAPEH was integrated since the ball used in the activity are sports ball.
 Numeracy skills were shown when the teacher let the student count how many balls they see.
Therefore, mathematics subject was integrated into this part of the lesson.

Explain
 In this part of the activity, the teacher let the student sing “Fly, Fly the Butterfly” while passing the
ball. MAPEH subject was integrated again.

Evaluate
 Learners were given different task to perform. Different group shows their skills in acting, reciting
poem & broadcasting. In this part, MAPEH and English subjects are present.

Indicator 2. Display proficient use of Mother Tongue, Filipino, and English to facilitate teaching and
learning.

Explore
 Since English is the medium of instruction of the Science subject and Bisaya is the dialect of the
learners, at the very beginning of the class, the teacher also speaks Bisaya so that the learners can
better understand what is being taught to them and as well as for the students to develop a sense of
belongingness to a classroom community.

Elaborate
 Some parts of the lesson proper were translated and explained into Bisaya in favor of learners’
linguistic concerns.

Indicator 3. Use effective verbal and non-verbal classroom communication strategies to support learner
understanding, participation, engagement, and achievement.

Preliminary activities
 At the very beginning of the class, the teacher smiled to convey the learners that they are welcomed
in the Science class and to promote open communication between the teacher and learners.

Explore, Explain & Engage

 During the lesson proper, the teacher demonstrated how to perform the ball in “explore part” and
PhET Interactive Simulation. The teacher used spoken words that include instructions and she used
non-spoken messages that include gestures, body movements, and postures.
Indicator 4. Establish safe and secure learning environments to enhance learning through the consistent
implementation of policies, guidelines and procedures.

Preliminary activities
 During preparatory activities, classroom management was done. Rules and regulation on the
classroom were done to have a productive classroom with focused, attentive, and on-task learners.
 The teacher also reminds the learners about COVID 19 classroom precautions. She reminded the
learners about physical distancing, health and hand hygiene, and always wearing their face masks to
protect themselves from the virus and to prevent the spread of COVID 19.

Explore
 In this part of the lesson, learners used different balls in performing the activity. The teacher
instructed and reminded the learners to do not play with the balls, so that they cannot hit or hurt their
classmates.

Elaborate
 Learners uses tablets and laptops in PhET Interactive Simulation, the teacher reminded the class to
handle it with care so that it does not fall or damaged.

Indicator 5. Maintain learning environments that promote fairness, respect, and care to encourage
learning.

Engage
 The teacher encourages and reminded the learners not to be afraid to answer and said that it is not
bad to try to answer.

Explore, Explain & Elaborate

 In the “Push the ball, Pass the ball & PhET Interactive Simulation” activities, the teacher showed
fairness in the way of waiting for the learners who did not follow on time with instructions, and she
repeated the instructions for the learners not immediately able to make the activity.

Elaborate
 In this activity, the learners were nervous because some of them don’t know how to use tablets and
laptops it might damage. That is why the teacher encouraged the learners not to be nervous and said,
she believed that the learners could answer it.

Indicator 6. Maintain learning environments that nurture and inspire learners to participate, cooperate
and collaborate in continued learning.**

Engage
 The “Picture puzzle” activity helps the learner to be independent to think through on their own.

Explore
 The teacher provided learning opportunities and engaged learners to participate and cooperate in this
hands-on learning activity.

Elaborate
 The PhET Interactive Simulation group activity challenged the students to think harder and dig
deeper and they had a collaboration. Learners needed to combine their knowledge about the lesson
that they learned during discussion.

Valuing
 In this part, learners were asked why and how’s questions. In this case, it allows students to gain
realization and possibly encourage and be inspired to study the Science subject.
Indicator 7. Apply a range of successful strategies that maintain learning environment that motivate
learners to work productively by assuming responsibility for their own learning. **

Engage
 In this activity, there was a timer present in the class and the teacher gives 30 seconds to the learners
to finish it. Because of this, the teacher was able to create a learning environment for the learners to
have active engagement and self-motivation to finish this activity.

Explain
 There was music in the “Pass the ball” activity and the teacher controlled when the music stop. In
this case, the teacher was able to create a learning environment that sustains learners’ active
engagement and excitement.

Indicator 8. Design, adapt and implement teaching strategies that are responsive to learners with
disabilities, giftedness, and talents.***

Preliminary activities
 During preliminaries activities, the teacher reminded the class that there was a learner watching and
listening through messenger video call who was in their home. This learner has a health problem and
initiates to join the class even virtually. Thus, the teacher created an environment where learners feel
equally involved.

Elaborate
 It was mentioned in the introduction part of the lesson that the learner was not able to physically
enter the school because he has a health problem. Therefore, to make instructions clearer to the
learner, the teacher has made in advance an instructional video for PhET Interactive Simulation so
that the learner can better understand and follow it.

Indicator 9. Adapt and use culturally appropriate teaching strategies to address the needs of learners
from indigenous groups.

Preliminary activities
 In the class there was a Manobo student, one of the indigenous people. He understands Bisaya but
the teacher made sure that from the start of her class, she used a respectful tone of verbal and non-
verbal communication to appreciate the challenges and adjustment of the said student.

Evaluate
 The teacher knew that the curriculum of the Indigenous People is focused on their daily lives that’s
why in this part of the lesson, the Manobo student is grouped with her Bisaya classmates to display
the culture and experience of Manobo that they have. It is also displayed how Manobo will apply this
learning in a real-life situation.
