College Application Letter is also known as the "Letter of Intent". It is a brief discussion of your
intention to be admitted in a specific course in college.

Using any of the three letter formats (Block, Modified Block, and Semi-Block) depends on your
preference as an applicant, but the most common layout for business letter is the block format
which means that all parts of the letter are aligned to the left. In a modified block format, the
heading, date, complimentary close, and signature are placed slightly to the right of the center of
the paper.

The least used format is the semi-block which is similar with modified block except that the
paragraphs of the body are indented.

SAMPLE COLLEGE APPLICATION LETTER

To Whom It May Concern:

After much consideration and thorough research regarding your college’s Psychology program, I am
formally writing you a letter to express my desire to apply to your College of Social Sciences and
Philosophy’s Bachelor of Science Program in Psychology. I am highly optimistic about this program
having heard great feedback from recent graduates whom I personally know. Additionally, it is public
knowledge that, UP, maintains the esteemed reputation of being the best university in the country, which I
am sure will further hone me to become better with what I am pursuing.

Currently, I have begun my journey and I am ready to dive deeper into the realm of psychology by finishing
my senior high school as among those With Honors, in the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS)
offering of Kasiglahan Village Senior High School this school year, 2022-2023. I also have had the best
psychology-related experience having been a Student Aide in our Guidance and Counseling Office,
where my people skills were put to the test, by assisting our GCO Officer-in-Charge with various student
concerns and issues. This path (being a HUMSS student), as well as my work immersion experience,
cemented it in me that I truly want to be a Psychology professional someday.

I am very certain that this is the correct path for me, for much of this intent came from my family’s influence
who are also well invested in this field. My Father is a school counselor, while my Mother is a government
social worker employed at the Department of Social Works and Development (DSWD) and both of
them graduated as a psychology major at the Philippine Normal University. Considering both of my parents
have similar career paths, I feel like I would be honoring them and their dedication to helping people by
entering this field of work.

Eventually, pursuing a Psychology-related graduate studies degree is my long-term goal and I wish to start
this journey here in your university. I have attached my resume, application form, as well as my transcripts,
essay, and all of my letters of recommendation herewith.

I appreciate your time and consideration and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Very truly yours,

Janna Gonzales
