Precalculus First Bimester Syllabus 2022-2023 Escuela Intemacional Sampedrana Mrs. Marcia Solis msolis@seishn.com Welcome to your Precalculus class. My name is Mrs. Marcia Solis and I will be your teacher for this school year. | am (class of 00). | have taught all levels of Math, Physics, Chemistry and Macroeconomics for about 13 years, and this is my fourth year at EIS. Ihave been a math lover all of my life. Precalculus sets the groundwork and bases for my all time favorite class: Calculus. | hope that | can teach you not only about the concepts and skills required to succeed in class, but also to enjoy and love the area of Precalculus and Calculus. But before we get started, we must establish a few ground rules: REQUIRED MATERIALS: NO MATERIALS WILL BE SHAREDI!!! Pencils and eraser every day! * Computer or IPad every day. * Digital Interactive Notebook / Notebook! Guided Notes (you will be expected to take notes daily) ‘* Scientific calculator (no graphing, solving calculator allowed) CLASS NORMS & EXPECTATIONS: Classroom Rules: * Arrive to class on time; sit in the assigned seat or group with required materials before the bell rings. Leave until dismissed by the teacher. If you are late: You must come to class with a white pass from the office (no other passes allowed). If you come to class without a pass and interrupt my class twice, you will get a double infraction and possible loose participation points. Follow the teacher's instructions at all times. No eating or chewing gum in class. No headphones allowed during class. Some exceptions will be made when we are all watching videos sometimes in class, but your teacher will tell you ahead of time. Any use of headphones without authorization will result in these being taken and sent to the office until your parents come to collect them. ‘* No cell phone use during class. Must be stowed away in a locker. See cell phone and belonging policy her Dress appropriately wearing proper school uniform. See uniform policy here. Follow the school's grooming guidelines. Be attentive and respectful to others. Come prepared to participate in collaborative team building activities. Show a positive attitude. HW and CW must be submitted according to your teacher's expectations (GC, Toddle, etc). IN CLASS POLICY: HWICW POLICY: * Work is considered late once the teacher has requested it during the class period( or by an assigned date and time) + See the Late Policy below: High School Late Work Policy ‘© Any excused absences may get | day for every day absent, with a maximum of | week, (tum in their missing work with no penalty ' © In the case of serious or prolonged illnesses, this determination will be subject to specific administration considerations, «Students who don’t tum in work on time will get 89% of the graded late assignments within one week, 70% of the graded late assignments within 2 weeks, and 0% of the graded late assignments after 2 weeks © Alltime extensions do not apply beyond the end of any bimester. There are no time extensions that exceed the end of any bimester. © Any assessment missed due to an excused absence can be completed in accordance to the Late Work Policy. ‘© Any assessment missed due to an unexcused absence will be completed on the fist day of return to school ‘* Changes to any school policies will be notified to students and parents via email. ABSENTEE POLICY: * All students are required to take their exams when scheduled. Ifa student is absent with a valid excuse all approved by administration (e.g. student is ill with a medical excuse submitted to office, student is representing the school or country at an event) ‘Parents must present an excuse to the secondary office (ausenclashs@seishn.com ). For an excuse to be considered valid it must be accompanied with a medical excuse or proof to support the absence. The student will have up to one week to submit all assignments missed * Iti also the Parents responsibility to ensure that their children complete all missing assignments. GRADING STRUCTURE: CUMULATIVE 65%: This category will consist of a couple of different types of assessments, both formative and summative. © Participation 10%: > Positive Attitude!!! > Bringing your ALL materials to class > Following norms regarding dress code and grooming. > Collaboratively working within your team. © Daily Class Activities 25%: > These will be completed during class time as individual or as collaborative team building tasks. > Students should expect to work in team groups in this class. It is important that Pg3 you learn how to explain yourself verbally with the proper math language and how to work with other students in discovering different ways to solve problems. There will be times when you are asked to present your work to the class. Homework 10%: > Homework will be assigned daily. All work assigned in class must be handed in the next day through Google Classroom, Toddle or according to your teacher's instructions. Any late work will result in a deduction of points according to school policy stated above. You must always follow instructions for assignment submission. © Group Team Building Activities or Projects 20%: > Projects: You will be given some school time to work on them but may also require some out of school time to be completed. EXAMS 35%: This category will consist of unit tests. Make up exams will be different and have no extra credit Chapter Tests 25% There will be an exam at the end of each Unit. Make up exams will be different and have no extra credit Quizzes 10: © There will be a few every bimester between chapter exams. Make up quizzes will be different and have no extra credit. ‘ Makeup quizzes could be deduced from tests, when the student has not been able to take the quiz before the test date. Your teacher will inform you if this, ahead of time. The problems will be similar to those done in class or on tutorials. The point of these "quizzes" is not to stress you out, rather it is to check your comprehension of the lessons and not just going through the motions (and so you're NOT cheating). If you successfully completed your practice assignments, quizzes should be really easy. ‘Student Resources: 1. Toddle: Communitactions, assignments, and some submissions will take place through Toddle. Itis the responsibility of the student to check their Toddle and emails constantly. 2, Plus Portals/Rediker: Grading will be posted periodically in Rediker, or Toddle. 3, Delta Math: Daily HW, Review Videos, extra practice. 4, Guided Notes: Will be provided by the teacher for daily recording of notes. You must take notes daily. These will be checked and graded periodically (unannounced) towards your participation/classwork grades.
