Directions:

Step 1: English Language Arts & Math - Read the standard at your grade level, the previous and the next grade level.

Social Science & Science - Read the standards as a department and decide which ones to teach at each grade level.

Step 2: Circle the verbs that tell what your grade-level students need to be able to DO (skills required to meet the standard).

Step 3: Underline the noun/noun phrases that tell what your grade-level students need to KNOW and UNDERSTAND (content/idea/conceptual understanding implied
in the standard).

Step 4: Highlight any vocabulary (academic/content language) that your grade-level students need to learn.

Step 5: Brainstorm student learning objectives for each grade-level standard after unpacking it.
