A young gardener observed that his rose plants were bearing flowers less often in spite of
adequate sunlight, water, and fertilizer, and the absence of pest. He was told that perhaps the rose
bushes were just too crowded. To test this idea, he transferred some bushes in one plot and planted
them close together. In another plot, he planted the rose bushes in each plot equally. After a few
months , he observed that the rose plants in the second plot had borne more flowers than those in the
plot that was more crowded. He then concluded that widening the spaces in between the rose bushes
in his garden could help them bear flowers more often?
