MERITS OF UNDERTAKING OF FABRICATION WORKS OF PENSTOCK LINER AND

APPURTENANTS IN THE BASE WORKSHOP OF P&R INFRAPROJECTS LTD,

CHANDIGARH

P&R have established a state of the art base workshop, on a plot of 20 acres, near Ropar city in Punjab
which is hardly 25 KM from Chandigarh on NH-21. This shop is equipped with most modern
equipment, plant and machinery, of all categories of required items and in manner by highly
experienced and qualified one dozen engineers who supervise the planning, execution and testing of all
fabrications done by more then 350 highly skilled workers like BQ welders, ITI fitters, foremen, cutter,
grinders etc. etc.

The QA activities are conducted and monitored by qualified and experienced QA engineers and
technicians with the assistance of in house NDT facilities like Radiography, Ultrasonic, DPT, tests and
physical checks.

The shop has its own permanent power supply connection of 1000 KVA and back up diesel Gensets of
capacity more than 1285 KVA.

The shop is approved by reputed agencies/ organization like RDSO (Railways), CPWD, state PWDS,
IRCON, L&T, Gammons, HCC, Shahpoorji Pallonji, NPCL, ADHPL, State Power Corporations and
several other Employers/ owner.

The shop was set up more than ten years ago and is accredited by ISO, TUV Austria.

Large works of structural steel work for bridges, flyovers, Penstocks, Gates, Trash Racks and
appurtenants have been completed in this shop for Govt. and Private agencies including some for
foreign countries.

The merits, in a nut shell, for fabrication of penstock, appurtenants Gates, Trash Racks etc. etc. in the
shop can be summarized as follows:-

Benefits of P&R workshop at Ropar

1. Workshop area is fully guarded with 30 nos of Security Guards and CCTV. All material lying at
workshop is fully secured with insurance Policy. Hence there is no scope for loss due to theft.
2. Proper record for incoming and outgoing materials is maintained.
3. The factory area is excise bonded. We have included the cost of excise duty in our scope which
may be an added benefit for NSL for claiming set off against ED/ Service Tax.
4. The workshop is equipped with all types of machinery for undertaking heavy fabrication work
for a monthly output of 3000 MT. As such, there will be surplus machinery and cranes available
to cope up with any eventuality of breakdown.
5. The quality of skilled manpower at workshop is very good.
6. All NDT facilities including radiography is available at workshop. There is no need to take
approval from BARC as in the case of site fabrication which is a very lengthy process.
7. There are 5 nos of covered bays with EOT and Gantry cranes.
8. There is ample storage space as the w/s area is spread in about 20 acres.
9. There is round the clock power supply connection of 1 MW with standby DG power of 1285
KW. Diesel pump is at a distance of 1 KM from the W/s.
10. The w/s is on the National Highway only 25KM from Chandigarh and approachable from Delhi
within 5 to 6 hrs time. It is ideally located for undertaking NSL fabrication work as Chandigarh
 will be the transhipment point for handling and transportation of steel plates from Mumbai Port
to TIDONG site.
11. The work can be started the very same day on receiving the plates and can be done round the
clock throughout the year in any season at the workshop.
12. All types of machining facilities are also available.
13. Availability of experienced staff for execution, testing and quality control.
14. Round the clock work for the entire year in covered shop with 24 hours power supply backup.
15. Facilities for fabrication of special like Bifurcations, trifurcations, expansion joints, reducer,
bulk heads etc. etc. as completed system for bending, drilling, cutting, grinding, heat treatments,
sand blast cleaning, spray painting and NDT testing available in house. All such items in any
case are fabricated in workshop only.
16. Ease and reduction in supervision and progress checking, efforts by the Employers/ owners.

As a matter of fact the modern trend in construction industry is to get all the fabrications done in
approved shops only because the proper quality in field becomes difficult and impossible to achieve.
P&R is accordingly dispatching heavy elements of fabricated items of bridges penstock and HM works
to places as far away as Kolkata, Mumbai, and South India.

It is highly advisable to fabricate the penstock, appurtenant, Gates & Trash Rack etc. etc. in an
established workshop in the interest of speed, quality economy and easyness.
