MAYAPYAP Project MELC (Managing and Enhancing Learning through Contextualization)

National High School STUDENT LEARNING GUIDE IN SCIENCE 10

Quarter II, Week 2

Lesson 2: Comparing Wave Features of EM Waves

MOST ESSENTIAL LEARNING COMPETENCY

S10FE-IIa-b-47: Compare the relative wavelengths of different forms of Electromagnetic

waves.

In this set of activities, you should:

1. identify the different forms of Electromagnetic waves based on wavelength,
frequency, and energy; and
2. determine the arrangement of different forms of Electromagnetic waves
according to wavelength, frequency, and energy.

WHAT YOU NEED TO REMEMBER?

Good day Maylinian! Let us enjoy as we learn about the comparing wave features of
EM waves 😊

WAVELENGTH: LONGEST to SHORTEST

long
FREQUENCY: LOWEST to HIGHEST
long
ENERGY: LOWEST to long HIGHEST

 Electromagnetic waves can be described by their wavelengths, energy, and frequency.
 EM Wave Features:
 Wavelength (λ) is the distance from one crest to another, or from one trough to another, of Electromagnetic
wave. It is usually measured in meters (m).
 Frequency (f) describes the number of waves that pass a fixed place in a given amount of time.
 The number of waves that pass a given point in a specific time. It is measured in hertz (Hz). 1 hertz is equal to
1 cycle per second.
 Energy (E) is the sum of the energies of the electric and magnetic fields. It measured in Joule (J)
 Wave speed is the distance a wave travels in a given amount of time, such as the number of metrs it travels per
second. Wave speed is related to wavelength and wave frequency by the equation: Speed= Wavelength x
Frequency.
 Relationship of wavelengths, energy, and frequency: The shorter the wavelength and the higher the frequency
corresponds with greater energy. So, the longer the wavelengths and lower the frequency results in lower energy.
