SLG Math 10 Quarter 2 Week 4
Hello Math-linian! Are you excited to continue our lesson about the different
theorems related to chords, arcs, central angles and inscribed angles? For this session, we
will prove the different theorems related to the circle!
Let’s begin!
A. In a circle or in congruent circles, two minor arcs are congruent if and only if
their corresponding central angles are congruent.
STATEMENTS REASONS
2. In ⊙B, m∠ FBI ≅ FI 2. The degree measure of the minor arc is equal to the
degree measure of its central angle.
In ⊙T, m∠ PTA ≅ PA
Part 2: Proof
STATEMENTS REASONS
1. ⊙B ≅ ⊙T, FI ≅ PA 1. Given
2. In ⊙B, FI ≅ m∠ FBI 2. The degree measure of the minor arc is equal to the
degree measure of its central angle.
m ≅ m∠ PTA
In ⊙T, PA
3. m FIm≅ m PA.
m 3. From #1, definition of congruent arcs.

congruent.
In ⊙T, AB ≅ HC since the chords are congruent. It follows that ABm≅ ES. m
C. In a circle, a diameter bisects a chord and an arc with the same endpoints if and only if it is perpendicular to
the chord.

Theorem 3. If an inscribed angle
intercepts a diameter of semicircle,
then the angle is a right angle. Find the value of x.
Solutions:
m∠ HIT = 90°
6 x ° = 90°
x = 15°
(8 y )° =168°
y =21°
Thus,
∠ NTF = (5 ( 21 )) °
= 105°
YOUR TASKS!
Enrichment Activity 1: Identify if the given statement is true or false. Write ARC if the given statement is True and
ANGLE if not.
1. If a quadrilateral is inscribed in a circle, then its opposite angles are supplementary.
2. In a circle or in congruent circles, two minor arcs are congruent if and only if their corresponding
chords are congruent.
3. The measure of the intercepted arc is equal to one-half of its intercepted arc (or the measure of the
intercepted arc is twice the measure of the inscribed angle).
4. In a circle, a diameter bisects a chord and an arc with the same endpoints if and only if it is
perpendicular to the chord.
5. In a circle or in congruent circles, two minor arcs are congruent if and only if their corresponding
central angles are congruent.

_____2. If two ____ of a circle intercept the same arc or congruent arcs, then they are congruent.
A. central Angles C. inscribed angles
B. chords D. twice
_____3. If a quadrilateral is inscribed in a circle, then its opposite angles are ____ angle.
A. equal C. right
B. not equal D. supplementary
_____4. If an inscribed angle intercepts a diameter of semicircle, then the angle is a ____ angle.
A. equal C. right
B. not equal D. supplementary
_____5. The measure of the inscribed angle is ____ the measure of the central angle.
A. equal C. not equal
B. one-half D. twice
Written Work #2: Prove the following theorem on a circle by supplying the correct reason for each statement. Choose
your answer from the box below. (2 points each)
In a circle, a diameter bisects a chord and an arc with the same endpoints if and only if it is perpendicular to the
chord.
Given: ES is a diameter of ⊙U and perpendicular to chord GN at I.
Prove: NI ≅ GI
STATEMENTS REASONS
3. ∠GIU ≅ ∠NIU 3.
4. UG ≅ UN 4.
5. UI ≅ UI 5.
6. Δ GIU ≅ Δ NIU 6.
7. GI ≅ NI 7.
