The frost showed its fires. But still they made no sound.
Not one snorted or stamped,
Between the streams and the red clouds, hearing the curlews,
Hearing the horizons endure.
4. Wind
Whether to two
Feet or four, how are prayers contracted!
Whether in God’s eye or the eye of a cat.
8. Snowdrop
In the dawn's early light, in the the biggest snow of the year
Two blue-dark deer stood in the road, alerted.
Then they ducked thru the hedge, and upright they rode their legs
Towards tree-dark--finally
Seeming to eddy and glide and fly away up
