Introduction
To ensure your ASMPT printing machine is in perfect condition for use in your production environment, the machine should be maintained on a regular basis. In order to
optimize the "Uptime" for each maintenance interval, four workflows have been defined combining the individual steps to form an efficient sequence of tasks to be
performed. All workflows are explained in detail and illustrated with clear diagrams.

Maintenance workflows
Each workflow is supported with a document (job card), which guides you efficiently through the maintenance work.
• Workflow 1: Weekly maintenance tasks
• Workflow 2: Combination of weekly and 3-monthly maintenance tasks
• Workflow 3: Combination of weekly and 6-monthly maintenance tasks
• Workflow 4: Combination of weekly and 12-monthly maintenance tasks

Planning workflows
Example for the frequency of individual workflows over a period of one year.
• Workflow 1: 52 times / year
• Workflow 2: 4 times / year
• Workflow 3: 2 times / year
• Workflow 4: 1 time / year

vironment for the user/maintainer using: familiar with use and functioning of the printer. Do not open protective covers
• Safety labels to inform the user of areas where danger may exist during operation unless you are told to do so in the printer documentation or in
the software on the printer GUI
• Safety circuits to ensure that the printer can only be operated when in a safe
condition • For your own safety, wear approved work clothes and footwear and personal
protection equipment (PPE) for the task you are undertaking
All safety circuits have been designed to meet the safety requirements as outlined
in the printers’ CE Declaration of Conformity. • Reduce the risks by not wearing scarves, chains or ties

General Safety Instructions • People with long hair must wear a protective head covering

The following general instructions must be followed to ensure operational safety: • Ensure no loose clothing

• The operational safety of the printer can only be guaranteed if the system is • ID badges (worn around the neck) must have a safety release catch

mentation minor, unless you are totally aware of the effect they will have on the overall
• Always follow any safety regulations specific to your country functioning of the printer

• Make sure that the warning labels are always clearly identifiable and easily • Printers must always be set up, retooled and maintained by appropriately
readable trained personnel

• Replace any damaged warning or notice labels. Replace any labels that are • Spillages – any spillages from the machine must be treated promptly in accor-
missing dance with local, federal or national guidelines

• Tools for releasing the covers on the printer must be kept in a safe place • Care to be taken when working in the vicinity of the print carriage linear bear-

Qualified Personnel Earth Bonding
This printer must be operated and maintained by personnel who are fully trained. The printers’ metal covers and all external metal surfaces are mechanically and
Below is a list of ASMPT training courses available to train your employees to the electrically bonded to the printer earth point. The bonding wire used is identified by
correct level: its green and yellow insulation. When removing these links, they must be refitted

Laser Safety
Some of the printer’s options incorporate Class 1 or Class 2 lasers. These must
not be used if there is any sign of damage or there are signs that the laser unit has
been dismantled or tampered with. The following options use lasers:
• Barcode Reader
• Paste Roll Height Monitor (PRHM)
• Auto Coplanarity
Magnetic Safety
The printer is fitted with linear servo motors which contain powerful permanent
magnets. The following general instructions must be followed to ensure safety of
personnel as they may:
• Present a hazard to personnel fitted with an implanted cardiac device. The mo-
tor manufacturer recommends a safe distance of at least 400mm
• Represent a serious hazard to personnel fitted with metallic implants
• Act upon ferrous objects (ie hand tools or jewellery) whose movements could
lead to personal injury and/or damage to the printer
Mains Supply
The mains isolator switch removes mains supply to the power supply enclosure.
Mains supply still exists in the printer, up to the mains isolator switch.
Hazard warning labels are placed on the outside of the enclosure where danger-
ous voltage (100 - 240V) terminations are present within.
Safety Notices

Safety Features
The DEK printer incorporates safety features that provide a safe operating environment for the operator, maintainer and the machine.

Emergency Stop (E Stop)

The printer is fitted with an E Stop which suspends all printer operations. The switch is in easy reach of the operator and once pressed, the latching switch requires
resetting. A warning of this condition is reported on the printer monitor.

Activate Reset
To activate the E Stop, press the red button. To reset the E Stop, turn the button clockwise until it unlatches and extends
outwards.

Opening Covers
NOTE
The safety features designed into this printer are for the protection of all users and maintenance personnel. ASMPT strongly recommend safety features are never
overridden.
The front cover is fitted with safety switches to protect personnel from internal moving parts. Opening a cover when not permitted, creates an E Stop condition.
The front cover electromagnet locks are de-energised when:
• Open Cover is selected on the monitor
• Open Cover is requested by software to complete an action
• The E Stop is pressed
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) General ESD Guidelines
Electrostatic discharge is a transfer of electrostatic charge between bodies at The following general guidelines should be observed when working with or hand-
different electrostatic potentials caused by direct contact or induced by an ling ESDs:
electrostatic field. An ESD sensitive device is a discreet device (eg EPROM, u Static-related damage may also be minimized by avoiding the introduction into
integrated circuit or assembly (circuit board with components)) that may be the work area of materials with a high intrinsic static charge. Items to particu-
damaged by electric fields or electrostatic discharge encountered in routine larly avoid are polystyrene packaging (or chips), cling film, polythene bags,
handling, testing or transit. clear bubble wrap and newly photocopied or printed paper.
ESDs can be destroyed by voltages and power levels that are far below the level u All electrical appliances used with ESDs must be earthed via the mains con-
that can be perceived by humans. Such voltages occur if a person touches a nector to mains earth. Equipment which cannot be earthed must not be used
component or module without earthing themselves. Components that are exposed with ESDs.
to such over voltages do not generally appear to be defective immediately - incor-
rect behavior starts after the component or module has been in operation for some u Whenever possible ESDs must be handled avoiding contact with component

The following symbol on the enclosure covers or packaging indicates that compon- u Original packaging and repackaging of new ESDs should provide for contact

the assemblies concerned are touch sensitive: to prevent a build up of static electricity. Conductive/dissipative foam may be
placed over device leads to protect them when out of the original packaging.
u Continuity of the printers’ earth path to mains earth must be established prior
to connecting to any available anti-static earth socket or suitable earthed point.
To ensure an earth path is present, before contact with any ESDs on the
printer, the printers’ attached mains cable connector must be first connected to
the mains supply outlet/socket. (Earth is established though the earth pin on
the connector.
u Before handling any ESDs the user must attach their tested and controlled
wrist-strap to themselves, and connect the trailing lead from the wristband to
the printer, preferably to the printer ESD bonding point.
u ASM recommends an anti-static wristband that incorporates a 1 meg ohm
resistor.
NOTE
If the printer anti-static point is disconnected the wrist strap lead should be
connected to an internal printer earth lead using a crocodile clip.
Electrical Lockout
Electrical lockout of the printer is achieved by applying a padlock , or any other
suitable locking device to the mains isolator switch. This can only be achieved
when the mains isolator switch is in the OFF position.
To electrically lockout out the printer, carry out the following procedure:
u Close down the printer software.
u Turn the mains isolator (1) switch (2) to the OFF position.
u Pull the yellow lockout tab (3) out.

u Fit a padlock or suitable locking device through the hole in the lockout tab
(3). This prevents the isolator switch being turned to the ON position and
this completes the electrical lockout.
