Islam is a comprehensive religion that explains all walks of the life of a man. So it’s
impossible for it to leave out such a crucial topic. Islam is the only religion that is
concerned with the mental well-being of man. When we closely introspect the
rulings regarding Haraam & Halaal, we can infer that all the things that are
prohibited to us are both mentally and physically harmful.
According to psychology, mental health and physical health are interrelated, and
are not two different things. When we are physically sick, it’s undeniable that it
affects our mental health (mood).
Islam gives a lot of consideration to people’s emotions and teaches us how to deal
with them. Thus, the rights pertaining to men are considered very critical. And if
any injustice is done, then Allah doesn’t forgive the offender until he’s forgiven by
the victim. It also teaches us how to control such emotional outbreaks, and ways to
relieve stress, depression, and so on.
A healthy person is one who’s both mentally and physically fit, rational, optimistic,
and happy and spreads that happiness to others. May Allah ﷻbless us with both
good physical and mental health

We get nervous, anxious, fatigued, lethargic, tensed, angry, sad, depressed, unhappy,
and moody. All are negative emotions that stem from the feeling of disliking and
rejecting anything that goes wrong as per our mindset. Or when the things don’t
happen as per our desire or we don’t like the happenings or we don’t get what we
aspire for.
All the above manifestations of our negative emotions are discussed in Psychology
under the topic of mental health.
Lack of mental well-being damages our health and social life. It can lead to reduced
appetite, gastrointestinal disturbances, suicidal thoughts, and fights with nears and
dears ones. The list of problems and damage goes on and on.
Two-three decades ago, the terminology of mental health was not known to the
common man because people did not suffer from such neuroticism or exaggerated
emotions. When people mentioned mental health or lack of it, what they meant was
generally schizophrenia or madness.
But now neurotic ailments like depression and anxiety have become so common that
even kids as early as five years old are tensed and depressed.
Why????
Because we have been continually programmed to believe that “we can win”, “we are
as we think”, “we create our own world”, “our thoughts can change our reality”, “ you
can get all that you aspire” etc.
Please tell me who created you? Who created nature, natural sceneries, and natural
phenomena?? Who created the wind, the heat, the beautiful moon, the love birds, the
colorful fishes, beauty, goodness, etc.
Furthermore, who created love, affection, kindness, and care even in the hearts
of carnivores.
If you get the answers to my questions, you will be the happiest person in the
world.
Very simple fact but made complicated.
Know and teach your children, students, and everyone that we are very tiny,
weak, and fragile creatures in this universe. Like a drop in the ocean or an atom in
the universe.
The one who created each and every thing creates the happenings and incidents.
We can try to avail ourselves of the good and avert the bad, and we must try, but
we must know that we may not always succeed.
We are not the creator of anything or even ourselves. The universe belongs to
the One who created it. It is His kingdom. It is His sovereignty. His power is over
all hearts, minds, and emotions. We don’t have absolute power over ourselves,
let alone others.
Hence, we must ask Him to give us peace, comfort, and happiness. If something
goes wrong, we accept it because it happens with His Divine Wisdom.
When we develop the habit of accepting and adjusting the matters that are
beyond our capacity and ask for His help, we will be at peace and will get rid of all
our mental problems.
This is what the last Prophet Mohammad
ﷺtaught us. He proclaimed daily,
morning, and evening.

But all this easy access to information comes with a disclaimer that, “All or any
information obtained through the internet can go as far as making you aware and does
not make you certified to pass professional opinions or label people.”
She nodded her head woefully and continued, “I’m super sure my mother has NPD,”
She stated with utmost confidence. I retained my silence, allowing her to continue,
“And I think my dad has BPD.”
With all honesty, I was taken aback for a few seconds at her revelation. But there was
more to what she had to disclose. As any given therapist would, I gave her the space to
voice her thoughts and emotions before I inquired, “The points when you mentioned
about your parents, that is your mom has NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) and
your dad has BPD (Bipolar Personality Disorder), did they get it diagnosed?”
She frowned at my question and then revealed, “They actually have no idea that they
have these disorders. But I know for a fact that my analysis is on point because I’ve
read a lot about it on the Internet. In fact, I can now clearly examine anyone who has
these disorders.”
I internally sighed at her confession and realized how easy it is for people to fall into
the trap of seeking partial and sensitive information like this from web-based content.
It wasn’t just this client alone; I’ve personally encountered numerous individuals who
fall into the same category where they believe knowing few symptoms of a condition
has given them the potential of labeling it as depression, anxiety, OCD and the list is
endless. Most often they don’t even realize the intensity of these imposed labels
which can be incredibly detrimental. It makes it appear as a choice that can be
controlled rather than treating it as a condition that can be managed and treated just
like a physical illness.
It’s now become a part of everyday behavior, with people using these terms
conversationally to describe undesirable flaws or traits or even speculate about
one’s mental health concern. But one needs to be aware that using such
terminologies not just trivializes complex mental health issues but also gives rise to
misleading stereotypes and myths around such labels. It even leads to the
stigmatization of these concerns which drives people away from seeking help for
their conditions.
Even people who are going through any loss; like the death of a loved one, traumatic
accident, or anything that is followed by them seeking therapy would have rounds
of gossip that people who seek therapy are mental, mad, crazy and the synonyms
are infinite.
Likewise, it is pretty much the same with other mental health concerns like
depression, OCD, or even anxiety. Just because one prefers things organized and
tidy, doesn’t necessarily mean they have OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). On
the same line, the nervousness that you experience before your exam or an interview
is just your experiencing anxiousness and it isn’t supposed to be labeled as an
anxiety disorder. To give you a glimpse of the diagnosis process, it consists of
medical and/or psychological tests which are combined with conversations about
symptoms, their duration, family history, and mental status examination – to name a
few before they’re labeled with a tag of a mental disorder.
So, the next time you happen to come across anyone who loosely uses such labels,
ask them the source of their information, especially if they hail from a non-
psychiatric or non-psychology background. Lo and behold, if they mention the
internet or Wikipedia as their source, then understand that not every piece of
information they’ve consumed is reliable. It’s time we move past these existing
stigmas, partially fed knowledge, and see physical and mental health equally.

GREATNESS
A mother is the greatest source of inspiration,
And also an epitome of determination.
No matter what the circumstances are,
She is ready to face it with all her power.
How can you misinterpret the dignity of a mother?
As she stands strong when you are in danger!
Respect and revere the presence of your mother,
She’ll do anything for you without any bother.
A mother is your lifetime bodyguard,
To protect you, she’ll tear the world apart!
May Allah grant all mothers the highest rank in Jannatul Firdous!

Mental health has become the talk of the world. Everyone, despite their age or
qualification, has taken it upon themselves to talk about this crucial subject. But do
these people really know what they’re talking about? Do they do enough research
on it? The answer is “No.” Many of them just go along with the trend and say
something for a few likes and followers.
Have we ever wondered why mental health has become so important? A few
decades back, this subject was almost unknown! The reason is its relativity to
human behavior. It shows us reasons and solutions for many puzzling actions of
man.
According to WHO, a healthy man is one who’s physically, mentally, and socially fit.
Such a person is an asset to the whole of the community. He’s considerate,
efficient, productive, and socially adjustable.
When mother ‘A’aisha (R.A) was asked about the character of Prophet ﷺ, she
replied, “His character was the Qur’an”. And when Allah says about our Prophet ﷺ
“Indeed in the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, you have a good example to follow” [33:21].
Our Prophet was of great moral character, and he ordered us to do nothing but the
same. And that is his purpose as well! It’s reported by Abu Huraira (R.A) that the
Messenger of Allah ﷺsaid, “Verily, I have only been sent to perfect righteous
character."
The postures during prayer improve blood flow and flexibility of joints and muscles.
Fasting improves mental health, metabolism, etc. There’s no hardship in Islam. When
even Allah hasn’t imposed such arduous acts of worship, then there is no need for us
to self-harm ourselves in the name of devotion like many of the deviant sects.
Islam prohibits any substance that is considered harmful to health. And also physical
harm towards others has serious consequences. On the authority of Ibn Mas’ud(R.A),
who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺsaid, “The blood of a Muslim person is not
permitted [to be shed] except in one of three [cases]: the married adulterer, a life for
a life, and one who separates leaving his religion.” [Bukhari & Muslim]
Lastly, Islam discusses a lot about mental well-being as this is the key to both
physical and social well-being. An Nu’man bin Basheer (R.A) narrates that The
Prophet Muhammad ﷺsaid: “Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body, if it
becomes good (reformed), all body becomes good, but if it gets spoilt, the whole
body gets spoilt, and that is the heart.”
Allah says in the Qur’an [17:82], “And We send down from the Quran that which is a
healing and a mercy to those who believe.” But this verse is often misunderstood by
people, and they tie the verses of the Qur’an for protection from evil eyes or when
they’re sick! Imam Abu Qatadah said regarding it, “When the believer hears it, he
benefits from it and memorizes it and understands it.’’
Recently, there have been reports of many suicides of youngsters. Especially those
in the entertainment industry. These famous actors, actresses, and K-pop idols
have ended their lives during the peak of their careers. It may be said that it’s due
to the depression from strict schedules and rules, a loneliness that comes along in
this field, the source of it is something else called “Existential Angst.”
We Muslims are aware of the purpose of our creation, which is to worship Allah. But
those who don’t believe in the existence of divinity suffer from not knowing the
reason for existence. During normal times, they may come up with one like, “My
career is the reason for my life,” etc. But when faced with hardships, when those
they sacrifice so much turn against them, the question rises again, “Why am I doing
this? For what am I doing this?” And at this point, they don’t have an answer, and
thus they see no reason to live and give up on their life.
When a believer is faced with hardships, he resigns to his fate, knowing that his
Rabb knows what is best for him, and He doesn’t burden a soul beyond its limit. And
this kind of relief can’t be felt when confided in man. Furthermore, it’s narrated by
Jundub (R.A) that the Prophet ﷺsaid, “Allah said: My slave has caused death on
himself hurriedly, so I forbid Paradise for him” [Bukhari].
So, taking his life is not an option for him. But these people don’t have anybody
higher than them to pass on their grievances to and keep them within themselves
and thus do the unthinkable. Worst of all, these souls died to gain peace but will not
get it even after death.
The hearts find peace only In the hands of their Creator and His words (Qur’an).
May Allah give us all such peace and protect our Ummah and grant guidance to all.
All of us would have lost something that is so special to us, let it be a beloved one, or
a favorite thing. We constantly think about it, get disturbed & worry about losing it.
So every time we feel something is missing in our lives, & the whole day gets ruined.
Then we search for a solution & go back to Him, to the one who called us before, to
whom we didn’t listen, so our knees bend down to him, our eyes carry tears while we
do sajda to him, our hands get raised to the heaven begging to him.
Ya Rabbi, Ya Rabb, Ya Malik, Ya Khaliq, I’m a faqeer (needy) from your creations,
asking for your pleasure on something that I have lost, please forgive me for my past
sins, & have mercy on me.
Then Ar- Rahman feels pity on us and blesses us with something which makes us
happy more than what we deserved. SubhanAllah! How beautiful is the fitrath
(nature) of our Rabb?
Now, at this point is: what is our nature? We feel that our tears are not an
Israaf(waste) and then we get busy with our happiness which was just a temporary
enjoyment, forgetting our Rabb who provided that to us. So again, our Rabb tests us
with something that turns us towards him!
Isn’t it true? We feel shame to ask for something from him! But see what Allah ﷻis so
beloved that He forgives all our past sins and blesses us continuously with whatever
is best! SubhanAllah!
The time that we forget our Raaziq -all provider (Allah) we tend to lose our mental
and physical health.
Remember never forget Ar- Razzaq ( the All-Provider), who gives us food, water,
shelter, parents, spouse, children, etc. Only when we remember Allah (SWT), will He
remember us. Our mental & physical health is also a provision from Allah ﷻ. Keep in
mind, He is the provider, so He can take provisions back from us!
Love for our Rabb strengthens our mental health, and makes us always feel content
with what we have!
Insha Allah! We must always strive hard to remember Him in each of our good and
bad times, which can signify our strong bond with our Rabb!

It's nice that people don’t view it as a harmful illness, but is it good that
so many people are affected by it?
—I can guarantee you (because I’ve tried) that no other act would
alleviate your stress and anxiety to a lower level like the recitation of the
Quran; praying and talking to Allah (swt) and supplicating to Him would
do. It would put your heart at ease.
A hadith from Sahih Muslim says that the Prophet (saw) said:
May Allah protect us from all mental disturbances and I hope some of
these points help you when you are low.
How is it then, that in the 7th century, in the deserts of Arabia, it was a well-
known fact, that humans were made up of water?
The answer to it is that this piece of information was revealed to the Prophet
Muhammad, back in the 7th century, in the deserts of Arabia, through the
Noble Quran. Allah says in the Quran (21: 30) “And We (God) have made every
living being from water. Will you then not believe?”
Isn’t it amazing that something which wasn’t known till about, 4 centuries back,
was something well known back in the 7th century ??
What’s even more mind-blowing is that this isn’t the only miracle found in the
Quran. Historical miracles, prophecies that have come true; literacy styles that
cannot be matched, are all found in the Quran.
These miracles clearly indicate that all of it, isn’t a coincidence, rather the
Quran is the words of God, the creator of all these laws of science.

It’s all God’s miracle.
I haven’t heard about this before.
Very informative and interesting article that enlightens us about the miracles
of GOD.
FEEDBACK
Amazed!!!! Haven’t heard of such a context before. I never knew that Quran
holds this much science in it. I’m still now astonished that the information was
found back in the 7th century in Quran before any other scientists or a book
could. And now I’m eager to know more facts about Quran!!!
