Rafter vs Deck Mounts

Attachment Spacing - quick review

Rafter Mount Spacing

● Rafter mount spacing can only be as wide as the multiples of the rafter spans.
● The most common rafter spans are 16” and 24”

Attachment Spacings for a project with The attachment spacings for a project
a rafter span of 16” on center: with a rafter span of 24” on center:

16”, 32”, 48”, & 64”. 24”, 48”, 72"

*you may see other spacings - make sure attachment spacing is a multiple of whatever that spacing is.
Decking Mount Spacing

● Decking mount spacing does not matter the distance because there are no
preset rafters in which to place the screws.
What We Are Seeing:

● Sometimes we come across a project that is Rafter/Truss spacing at 24” on

center with attachments listed at 60” on center, which will not work.

● Mostly this is due to incorrect CADs and attachments that can either be a
rafter mount OR deck mount. Please make sure we’re checking this and
asking the client to make any changes as necessary.

● We also sometimes see incorrect representation of rafter on CADs as well
