A review of the news article: WHO say Covid-19 is no longer a global health

emergency

The emergency committee recommended declaring an end to the public health

emergency. WHO declared the coronavirus outbreak a public health emergency in January 2020,
creating a PHEIC between countries to manage the emergency. The US is set to end its PHEIC
on May 11.

Pandemics have a history of ending when the next pandemic begins, as seen in the
evolution of the virus and its global presence. WHO's Covid-19 technical lead says the
emergency phase of the crisis is over, but the disease is "here to stay" and the coronavirus is not
going away any time soon. Tools are in place to ensure future waves do not result in more severe
disease or death. The Covid-19 pandemic has caused 765 million confirmed cases and 7 million
deaths, with Europe having the most cases and the Americas having the most deaths. Globally,
billions of vaccine doses have been administered, but deaths have remained far below previous
peaks. Despite this, more than 3,500 people died in the last week of April and billions remain
unvaccinated. President Tedros has promised to convene another emergency committee meeting
and declare a global health emergency if needed.

I think that COVID-19 disease is not a global health emergency. Some people can be
seen wandering around without face masks if you pay attention to your surroundings. Some
businesses have less strict health guidelines for customers. This only shows that we are getting
back to where we were before the pandemic.
