The Battle of Mactan:
The most significant event in Lapu-Lapu's life occurred on April 27, 1521, when Portuguese
explorer Ferdinand Magellan arrived in the Philippines on behalf of the Spanish Crown.
Magellan's arrival marked the beginning of Spanish exploration in the Philippines. He sought to
convert the indigenous people to Christianity and establish Spanish control over the islands.
Magellan attempted to assert his authority over Lapu-Lapu and demanded that he recognize
Spanish sovereignty and convert to Christianity. Lapu-Lapu refused to submit.
