Introduction

A model is a means of organizing a complex body of knowledge. Nursing theories are tested
and systematic ways to implement nursing practice. Theories mostly attempt to explain
human behaviour, health, and mental illness. However, a single theory can never throw light
on all aspects of human behaviour, neither it can work perfectly for all patients. So, to ensure
effectiveness of care by the nursing personnel, every nurse should have a firm grasp with
the various psychosocial approaches. The treatment of mentally ill patients depends mostly
on the philosophy related to mental health and mental illness. We will take a tour across the
various theoretical and conceptual models of psychiatric nursing practice.
