Task 1: Modelling
12 Bus System Model using Power World Simulator

Figure 1.1 12 Bus Model

The figure above shows the 12 Bus System Model provided by the instructor that was
modelled using the simulator Power World. Based on this model, it has 3 plant types which are
Hydro, Coal, and Natural Gas. The system also has 12 connected bus bar and 4 transformers

Task 2: Base Case Analysis

Model Correction
Two shunt capacitors with nominal values of 95.3 MVAR and 96.0MVAR were installed
in busses 6 and 7 to meet the bus per unit voltages of 0.95 to 1.05. When the switched shunt is
controlled automatically, its reactive power is adjusted in discrete increments or continuously
to keep the voltage at the regulated bus within the per unit voltage range indicated by the high
and low values. After installing the shunt capacitors, the overloaded transmission line was
immediately rectified. Finally, the correction was performed for the transformers by turning on
the Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) and setting the Minimum Tap Ratio to 0.95 and the
Maximum Tap Ratio to 1.05. When the transformer is set to automatic voltage control, the taps
on the transformer change automatically to keep the voltage at the regulated bus within a
voltage range between the minimum and maximum voltage values, which are provided in per
unit.
