Honouring our Parents

For your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And honour your parents. If one or
both of them reach old age in your care, never say to them ˹even˺ ‘ugh,’ nor yell at them.
Rather, address them respectfully.

Firstly Allah tells us to worship none but him and then he tells us to honour our parents. From this we can
say that honouring our parents has a very high importance in Islam. Then Allah explains how we should treat
our parents when they reach old age.. We should never swear, yell at them or abandon them. Rather we
should treat them with respect and kindness.
Ayah 24

And be humble with them out of mercy, and pray, “My Lord! Be merciful to them as they
raised me when I was young.”

In this Ayah Allah commands us to pray for them by asking Allah to lower his wings of mercy for your
parents as they took care of me when I was younger. This is a very good dua to make for your parents. Here
is another one :

“Our Lord! Forgive me, my parents, and the believers on the Day when the judgment will come to pass.”
