Abstract

Fire in the Amazon rainforest is one main concern in recent days. Several fire spots in the
Amazon rainforest are observed analyzing satellite images from the forest fire control program
from INPE (Brazilian National Institute for Space Research). One method to examine the cause
of these fires is the spatial distribution of the fire spots. This study aims to investigate the fire
spots of august 2021 in the municipality of Apuí – AM. This city was the most affected by
forest fires in 2020. The data analyzed is the frequency of heat spots in a 2 km grid over the
municipality. Specifically, the study analyzes the spatial relations of the average in comparisons
with randomly distributed data to determine if the original data has a random distribution.
Additionally, the correlation between the distances of roads and frequency help to determine
if the cause of the fires. The study shows by comparing the data from forest fires of Apuí with
randomly distributed data it is possible to observe the majors difference in the average spatial
distribution. Furthermore, forest fires have a spatial relation with the existing roads what
indicates that they are related to human activity.
