 To get a better understanding of the
organization and functioning of society, it is
necessary to apply the analytical method
Wich consists of the dismemberment of a whole,
decomposing it into its elements to observe the
causes, its nature, and effects.

society... observes how these elements work
and how they relate with others
The Sociology of law aims for a bigger field of observation in
which this field can be heading towards two directions, one
spatial, observing different societies around the globe and the
other one temporal, studying them during the course of time,
historically speaking.

In each case, the comparative method is useful but in the second

one is also possible to study how they change and evolve
 Although sociology is a positive science in the
sense it supports the observation of reality,
sociology is not an experimental science because
social phenomena cannot be voluntarily caused
nor be repeated with accuracy
 Social anthropology has developed
other techniques for addressing
knowledge from other cultures,
these techniques enable the empiric
investigation of social situations
providing a coherent and intangible
vision of society
From the sociology point of view, legal
rules are considered social phenomena
Sociology of law doesn't judge over the values
that legal rules encloses but takes them into
account in order to observe social phenomena
Most of the legal methodology has a
documentary nature such as laws, case laws,
judgments, doctrinal works, or any social
description that offers any legal fact
The specific object of study of the
sociology of law lies in the
observation of social reality but
with the perspective of doctrine
law
