DATA PROTECTION LAWS IN QATAR

In 2016, Qatar enacted Law no. 13 Concerning Personal Data Protection (the “DPL”). The
DPL establishes a certain degree of personal data protection, provides data subject rights, and
prescribes the guidelines for organizations for the processing of personal data within Qatar.

The data protection law applies to personal data when


this data is one of the following:
 Processed electronically.
 Obtained or collected or extracted in any other way in
preparation for electronic processing.
 Processed by combining electronic processing and traditional

Each Individual has the right to the protection of the Personal Data thereof
that shall be processed only within the framework of transparency, honesty,
and respect of human dignity, and acceptable practices according to
provisions hereof.
If your organisation fails to protect personal data and comply with Law No.
13 then you are exposed to not only high financial penalties (ranging from
QAR 1,000,000 to QAR 5,000,000) fines ,but operational inefficiencies,
intervention by regulators, and most importantly permanent loss of your
consumer trust.

COUNTRIES THAT DOES HAVE DATA PROTECTION LAWS:


Albania is one of the countries that does not have data protection laws.
The law was to exist but was not passed in the country yet.

In the last 5 years 15,000 children have been separated or have
gone missing from their families. Due to the poor social and
economic state of the country security hasn’t been looked at
strictly.
