This methodology is intended to define the steps to be followed
when dismantling and installing new low voltage switchboard and related civil works at Kisumu Depot (PS28) Pump Station.
2.0 SCOPE:
This shall involve the following in the following sequence.
a) Job Safety Analysis
b) Pre shutdown works. c) 1st Shutdown works -powering the essential loads from temporary LV board d) Dismantling of old switchgear and replacement with new e) 2nd shutdown works -moving the essential loads from the temporary LV board to the newly installed LV board
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
1) Site Managers/Supervisor(s).

5.0 PRE-SHUTDWON WORKS
i. opening wooden crates covering the switchgear
ii. physical inspection of the switchgear iii. opening up trenches and cable compartments on existing switchgear and recording cables iv. Installing temporary distribution board and junction box v. Civil works and air-conditioning works vi. Part Installation of new switchgear (PF, KOJ, firepump feeder, incomer, ATS) on the created space

6.0 1ST SHUTDOWN WORKS -7Hours:
powering the essential loads from temporary LV board
i. coordinate with KPLC to isolate power
ii. confirm power has been isolated and that busbar is dead iii. unscrew and mark cables for essential loads and transfer to temporary distribution board iv. Restore power to essential loads by powering the temporary distribution board
7.0 DISMANTLING OLD SWITCHGEAR AND REPLACING WITH NEW- 48hours:
i. Unscrew, mark and remove all cables
ii. Disassemble the switchgear and move it out iii. Position and assemble the new switchgear iv. Terminate cables on the new switchgear v. Terminate new cables between the new switchgear and the junction box established for some of the short cables vi. Coordinate with KPLC to relocate meter to the new switchgear and restore power vii. Test and Commission the new switchgear
8.0 2ND SHUTDOWN WORKS – 8hours:
moving the essential loads from the temporary LV board to the newly installed LV board
i. Move loads from temporary distribution board to the new switchgear
ii. Terminate cables at the junction box for some of the short cables iii. Test and commission
9.0 Test pumping and handover -2days
