Dear Chandana,

Issues related to anesthesia and critical care

During the unit meeting taken with our MO anesthetists on 28.08.2023 few burning issues were highlighted . We
believe those issues should be addressed as early as possible for smooth functioning of the anesthesia and critical
care in this hospital.

1.Issues related to orthopedic theater.

Malfunctioning equipment

OT-E theater table

OT-E and OT-F ventilators
Patients are at high risk during surgeries due to above issues as we are providing
anesthesia under sub-optimal conditions

Unprofessional request

MOAs are requested to provide anesthesia for surgeries which are carried out in
places other than theater tables.

Eg: Trollies which are places in

1.recovery area
2.Theater corridors
3.by the side of main theater table

Problems related to radiography

Uses C arm in unprotected areas without proper warning.

Eg- . using C-arm for patients in trollies which are placed close to main theater table while
anaesthetists inducing or recovering patients.
Not closing mobile lead protected doors while using C arm, inside theater premises.
People outside are exposed to radiation without their knowledge.
Not giving enough time for MOAs to prepare with protective kits.

Unavailability of adequate amount of Lead aprons to be used while using C-arm simultaneously in both OT E
and F. Only 12 are available. Others are condemned ones.

We anaesthetists are not responsible for anesthetic procedures done by nonanaesthetic Mos.

2.Issues related to A&E.

Due to the availability of Emergency Medicine Physicians and trained Mos, we do not attend
intubations in A and E.

3.Issues related to Theater Kits.

Theater scrub kits and shoes are in poor quality especially in main OT and A and E OTs.

Due to above issues working environment for our Mos has become very unpleasant. We
appreciate if you could arrange a meeting to discuss above issues with the participation of
1) Consultant anaesthetists
2) Orthopedic surgeons
3) MO Anaesthetists
4) Theater in-charges of OT E/F and Main Theater
5) In-charge of Radiographers

4.Issues related to MO Carder.

Unavailability of sufficient MO carder some theater tables had been closed ,also there is threat to
reduce ICU beds.
